Asking for money of course, under the pretext of getting the NICS bill passed. I was very nice, and had general knowledge of the bill. I used that knowledge to debate the merits of the bill with her, which of course was made easier because she had not actually read the text of the bill herself.

Eventually she moved to end the call with a (seemingly genuine) “I can understand why you do not wish to donate”.

Folks, one of the easiest things you can do is join the Brady bunch website. They frequently give me the opportunity to express my feelings to my elected officials (of course they suggest wording I don’t like but I change it). Although come to think about it, it has been a while since they gave the opportunity.

And now they gave me the opportunity to deny them a contribution while educating their workforce. Imagine if 9 out of 10 calls go to educated gun owners fully prepared to debate the merits of their non-sense.

Everyone should get on their call list think how much time effort and money they would divert and waste.

Here's a link to their sign-up page if you're up to it. Probably a good idea to copy the addy and paste it into another tab or window so it doesn't show as a link coming from here.

I'm going to have to set up an anonymous email first. One I can walk away from if I can't stomach the nonsense.

My first post by the way. I'm new here but have been around on the other like-minded forums.

Good tip, takurpic.

Welcome aboard.

Too bad they have to seek out members and contributions, while of course everyone here is an active contributing member of an RKBA (Right to Keep and Bear Arms) group.

Right?

Riiiiight.

Years ago, I somehow appeared on a Jimmy Carter mailing list -- I think it was my nutcase uberliberal sister-in-law. I loved it! Each week I received multiple mailings begging for donations. When the volume slackened, I'd send them a check for $1. I figure they must have spent hundreds on me on postage alone.

Then Jimaah Cracka sold my name to other left of left of center organizations. A lot of those mailings came with postage paid return envelopes. What fun. I'd stuff the envelope with all sorts of other mailers, till it looked like Teddy Kennedy in stretch pants, then pop it in the mail. A postmaster friend of my father's assured me that the nutjob organizations would have to pay for the return postage as well as an overweight penalty. I could have taped the envelope to a cinder block and cost the wackos big bucks. Never wasted a brick on those '*****, though; I was content to cost them significant coinage.

Sadly, they seem to have somehow, improbably, learned. You now have use your own stamp on the envelope. I've had to look elsewhere for my fun.

30Year member of the NRA.

I might join a mailing list, but I don't want them with my address, and I'd hate for them to use it for marketing - numbers-wise.

Giuliani's campaign mail has been coming with those dandy pre-paid postage stickers. :neener:

I joined the Brady bunch too, figuring like other people that I'd change the words on their preformatted emails to elected officials. After reflection though, I think that's a bad idea. I'm pretty sure all the officials care about is how many emails they get from the NRA and/or Brady bunch, I really doubt they read my message and had the chance to see I was actually pro-2A. I won't be doing that again, if I have anything to send, I'll use the NRA's website to help me do computer-assisted emails.

Charles Foxtrot, you just ruined my breakfast:

Teddy Kennedy in stretch pants

Aaaaak!

Actually, if I recall correctly, I think it's against Postal Regs to send back empty Biz Reply envelopes... or not using them for their intended purpos, or something.

Anyhow, I was going to say in my previous post that although Legilslatots may not read your letters, they can sure count them. And they are all aware of the Membership Numbers of the NRA. However, I did not want to start another hissing contest over the NRA.

So, you have a good points there, Oana and Esquidgator regarding joining the anti-Organizations.

Sometimes I wonder if short, short notes starting out "I wish to object to," or "I wish to support..." might not be better than some of those pre-written messages or "polls" or "suggested format" letters.

As I often quip, Legislators can't read. But they can count.

Or at least some of their staffs can.

Oana is right. I considered signing up with the Brady Bunch, but can you imagine if they started advertising they have X Million people, including X Million gun owners? Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather help keep them as a fringe group, thanks.

I am not sure if it still around, but the "Million Moms" chapter in Minnesota used to be a bunch of RKBA enthusiasts that met every month to push for concealed carry.

It looks like the Million Mom website has shut them down. It also looks like they have NOT been replaced by a million blissninny sobsisters. It looks like they got maybe ten people to march once.

I am on their snail-mail list - cost them money to send things to me and if there is a postage paid return envelope - is send their stuff back - without my name. make them spend their money.

when they call for donations - i keep them on the phone - agree with them, praise them - just make them waste their time.
