Just picked up an M1 carbine, 100 rds of ammo, and a magazine for 200.00. Its in good shape, I've already shot it and I love it. very accurate. My question is was this a good deal and whats the best and cheapest ammo I can get? TULA .30 Carbine 110gr. FMJ ammo 500.00 rounds for 134.95 plus shipping. Anyone have thoughts on this ammo or any other? Thanks

You did get a good deal. I'm really jealous. I love the M1 and everything derived from it. Congrats on the find.

Theres a serial number behind the rear site and it says U.S Carbine at the end of the barrel . Thats all I see.

wow 200 for all that? I'll give you 300 right now and you just made a 100 dollar profit, hahahahahahah

Blue Sky was a big importer 20+ years ago, mainly M1 Garands and M1 Carbines from Korea. The Koreans are not known for their rifle maintenance, so if you can, have someone check the headspace and the bore.

Still, even if you need to put some work in it, $200 is a great price. Post some pictures if you can.

Normally I would refer someone to CMP for ammo, but I've had a bad experience with their Aguila ammo. Ammoman has Federal red box for $240/500rds. Let us know how the Tula ammo works for you if you buy it.

CMP does have a few carbine parts--magazines, new stocks, new barrels, etc., if you need them.

Thanks for the replies.

I actually had a local gun shop look at it first. He said it was in pretty good shape.

What?? You DON"T have the 55-foot truck unloading ammo at your house right now? ;)

Gorgeous carbine....shoot and enjoy. color me VERY deep green with envy.. :D:D

You made a super deal there by the looks of it. Now would be a perfect time to start condisering an inexpensive reloading set-up in .30 carbine, so as to shoot to your hearts content.

I reload for mine, shooting my own cast 100 grain lead bullets and 4227 powder "12 to 14 grains".

You have discovered one of the more perfect all around fun/plinking rifles.

Yes, Blue Sky/Arlington Va is the importer's mark required when surplus guns were returned to the US in the 1980s. Blue Sky imported a bunch of carbines I believe from South Korean surplus (bought by S. Korea from US).

Mine was an IBM manufacture marked on the barrel "I.B.M. Corp" behind the front sight.

Other maker's marks may be hidden hunder the adjustable read sight. There were about twelve US manufacturers in WWII, and other companies made small parts (Marlin, AutoOrdnance (the tommy gun folks)) as subcontractors.

I paid 225.00 for mine in the late 1980s. You paid 200.00 today? Man, you stole that gun: I wish I could luck up on buys like that.

================================

There is a side issue currently raging on another batch of Korean surplus poised for possible sale on the surplus market. There is a large batch of Korean surplus hung up on the issue of whether the guns in question were bought and paid for Korean property, or loaned and rightfully US property; plus fears expressed by the US State Dept that such a huge import might end up in the "wrong hands".

Great deal !!! Whats the serial number ??? I can tell you who made the receiver. There should also be markings on the barrel just behind the front sight.
:D

Serial number is 5693027 looks like either an m or a w stamped right behind the front site.
Thanks.

Does it have an adjustable rear sight? The maker's name is probably covered by the rear sight, if it was originally made with an "L" rear sight. When they upgraded it to the adjustable sight, the name got covered up.

The name of the maker is important, because people collect carbines by manufacturer. The value can vary tremendously, depending on whether it was a common maker or a rare one. If it says "Commercial Controls" or "Irwin-Pedersen," you've hit the lottery. If "Inland Div.," not so much.

That does sound like the deal of the century.

Wideners has reloadable Prvi at $17.50 per 50rds and CTD has reloadable Winchester at $200/500rds.

Prvi makes good ammo but shooting Winchester in your Winchester seems poetic.

Get a flashlight and look under the rear sight, just above the serial number. The manufacturer's name should be there. It'll be hard to see, under the rear sight, but if it's a USGI carbine it'll be there. Don't go by markings on the barrel, those were frequently changed out during arsenal rebuilding. If it says Winchester, go buy some PowerBall tickets, you lucky son-of-a.....

OK now I see it. It does say Winchester under the rear sight. So what might I value this at approximately. Its in good working condition and quickly becoming my favorite rifle. My 12 year old daughter is chomping at the bit to shoot it, we're going to the range for a Fathers Day shoot this weekend. Again thanks for all the replies.
