Just got a new carry gun...now i need a holster

I have a Del Fatti and another on order. I'm also waiting on a Milt Sparks.

My EDC is a 4" N-Frame revolver. If you need something quick to get you by until your "custom" comes in I suggest looking in the "Used Holster Bin" at your local gunshop. You never know what kind of treasure you might stumble across.

I have several IWBs. My next-to-latest, a Milt Sparks VM2, is really nice. It also cost $115 delivered, and the wait was almost 6 months. When I needed one for my 625-11 45lc snubbie, things got tough. The regular manufacturers don't have a mould for the gun, and there seemed to be no easy way to get a holster made. I got with Tom Dyer at saguarogunleather.com, who I've dealt with in the past. Tom will make you anything you want, in any color, and tool the leather if that's what you're looking for. Anyway, the bottom line is I had my holster in 7 days, $58 shipped. It's as comfortable as any, with the fastest draw I've seen. You might want to drop him a line.

This is a pic of my 386 Mountain Lite (3" barrel) which I have had for nearly three years. I don't think they make the 3 incher any more. I have carried it in a FIST #1 holster and have found it really quite good. It is easy on, easy off, and secure on the belt as well. I recommend the #1 highly.
 
I like Kramer products too but I didn't mention them because they are so expensive. That's why I recommend and buy DeSantis, Don Hume and Mika's products.
 
if you want a holster and want one fast i would go with above mentioned products,

i personallly use High Noon, they are top of the line, you have to wait but there products are very high quality, i carry my 642 smith in a horse hide topless OWB holster and that thing is nice, i also have there pocket carry and an IWB for my XD check them out

they have some stocking holsters meaning they have them on hand but most of them are custom made to your gun model/type and the waiting time is around 3 months :eek: but it is well worth the wait, im actually going to buy another horsehide topless for the glock i just purchased :)
 
I recommend UBG in Utah. Excellent craftsmanship, communication and he doesn't take your money until he actually starts your holster. You need to get in the queue though, this is not a stop and shop place, it's all custom.

I sincerely dissuade anyone from HBE Leatherworks. Dig through threads for details, I won't rehash here.
 
i personally sport the don hume IWB holster and find that it is very comfortable, i carry at about 5 oclock
 
Buy one of every brand and style you see. If you are like most of us you will end up with a big bag of holsters you have tried over the years looking for that RIGHT one.

I just corresponded with Andrew Johnson yesterday. He has a HUGE backlog right now. They had a new baby this past summer, with some complications. He said he was about 12 weeks behind. But if you aren't in a rush don't let that stop you. He has some ingenious designs great for a pretty fast draw from a concealed location.

I also have some Don Hume leather. Same deal. Long wait. Decent stuff, but I like their OWB better than IWB. My SP-101 rides too "fat" in the IWB, since the belt clip sits right over the cylinder area.

Majic called it. Just start buying. They are like shoes. I'd recommend you find a favorite and then use it the majority of the time. If you draw from the same kind of holster, from the same location on your belt, it will only lead to speed and reliability...
 
I'm a big fan of the AJK Concealco stuff. I have one of their IWB holsters for my K frame. It was a long wait, but it's of very good quality. I've been very happy with it.

Just ordered a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake with inside out conversion for very reasonable money with a 4 to 6 week turnaround today. These holsters have got some decent press latley, so I figured I'd give one a try. Very nice and knowledgable on the phone too. Plus, they actually have a mould for my Colt "41" E frame. NICE!

Holster Advice

Take alook at El Paso Saddlery's offerings at www.epsaddlery.com. You will have to wait 4-8 weeks, but the quality is high an the prices are reasonable. An IWB might not be the best choice for a relatively large wheelgun-cylinder bulge may bother you-just a thought.
 
Stumpy, I carry an N-Frame daily and IWB is my preferred method of carry.

If one learns to "Dress around the gun" it is not uncomfortable. Besides, I think it was Clint Smith that said, "Guns should be comforting, not comfortable." He said this when he was speaking about concealed carry.

I disagree slightly with this comment. I find IWB comfortable with a good belt and holster, as long as my pants are "sized" to accomodate the weapon I choose to carry.
