Just got my Commander back from Colt Customer Service

Over the last twelve years, I've bought four (two new and two used) Colt 1991A1s (and all ORM to boot). All have worked flawlessly (accurate and reliable) with everything from tons of cheap (and I mean cheap--but that's another story) reloads and premium JHPs.

Well, I just got back from the gun show. I had a 1911 gunsmith look at it. He said it's a crying shame that Colt let that recoil plug tunnel go unfixed.

But, remember I was telling you about the jamming problem? Well, he showed me why.

On the bottom of the mouth of the barrel, the part of the area of the feed ramp (?), there are huge tool marks/crevices. He showed me another barrel. That one was smooth. He said those machine marks are grabbing the shells as the gun is chambering. Thus the jams.

My other Colt 1911 is a Series 70 government model. It was a jam-o-matic. I finally sent it to Clark Guns and let Jim Clark rebuild it. I guess I'll have to do the same with this one.

Funny, but if I wanted to invest two grand in a 1911, I would've bought a Wilson.

If you're a Colt apologist (of which most of you are), then nothing I say will satisfy you. Colt has not reimbursed me anything. I'm not going to send it back for a second time. It costs me $56 one way for shipping. They had six weeks and, save for the front sight, the gun was in worse shape than when it went in.

If you're not a Colt apologist, then I would warn you against buying a Colt product recently manufactured. Older Pythons are great. As are Diamondbacks.

BTW, the 1911 gunsmith? He said Colt is trading on a 120 year old name. He said, based upon the work he's seeing, that they are on their last legs. People simply will not buy inferior merchandise simply for the name.

In fact, here in Tulsa, there's not a single gun store that will sell Colt anymore, except by special order.

Sad day for the pony.

I question why you post the exact same words on 2 different forums? I agree with DHart's comments on your intentions.....but that is just my opinion....
