A hard-sided holster can really help in securing the firearm and distributing weight to a belt.
That's true but it's not the primary reason that a holster that stays open without the gun in it is the only type that should be used. The reason is safety. IMO, a good test for a holster is to put the (unloaded) gun in it (holster not on the belt) and try your damndest to move the trigger with the gun still in the holster. If the trigger can be moved, at all, the holster shouldn't be used. It's also quite common for people to muzzle themselves while holding a softside holster open with their other hand, or, if they're trying to holster one handed, they muzzle their body while trying to use the barrel to push the mouth of the holster open.

I have thee main firearms I EDC but shoot frequently I will always carry the Pico. In winter the small, Mild Mannered Nano which is snag-free. I carry Apex without a holster, but will also carry the Nano in a slim Pancake holster that rides tight against the body.

And I will carry the LCR9mm almost anytime. And Apex or again with a Mitch Rosen Holsters. It is surprising how nice the 17oz LCR can be carried.

The Important thing is they carry with Minimum size and they are reliable and "FUN" to shooting. Enjoying your EDC is high on my list.

I'm giving up on semiauto for appendix, back to J-frame for today.

I think it's just my body shape that the angular top of a semi digs in while the curve of a revolver tucks in perfectly.

I'm looking at revolvers with higher capacity and better shootability to replace the 642 for EDC.

The Kimber K6s and Ruger LCR in 327 both offer an additional round of capacity and better triggers. They are worth a look.

While I have carried and shot both, I keep coming back to what I shoot the best. For me that's an FNP-9. With a toddler there is one thing you must always do, secure your weapon! I like those mountable gun vaults that hold one gun and are finger tip activated. I carry OWB at 3 o'clock with a kydex holster.

My next gun will be to add to the Ruger LCR9mm. Already have the LCR22 for training. so thinking about another 9mm but a LCRX. Could possibly buy a 327, for carry and train with the 9mm as I could not afford the ammo for the 327 especially since I shoot so often. I reload, but not much time for it. And it would not be very 327 is not a very practical ammo as far as the wallet is concerned.
The K6 seems like a really nice gun, but as Hickcock45 said, I would just carry 38 Plus P. I personally have no desire to shoot 357 out of a snubbie. and I would hate to be caught in a position where I would have to use 357 or 327 without ear protection. I also have no problem with a 5 shot revolver. IMO, (not all) 5 shots in a real life assault situation would be more than adequate and I choose to rely more on training and accuracy than number of rounds. JMO.
Besides I really like how the LCR9mm handles. Can shoot quite a bit of ammo through it with no problems as far as recoil. Easy gun to manage and is a fun gun to shoot.

(all that said, I really do not need another EDC gun) Need to quite buying so many guns.

I have a Gen 3 G23 (see avy) and the great thing about any Glock is its modularity and after market options. I believe this is a huge reason so many people prefer the Glocks. As for my G23, I have a KKM 40S&W-to-9mm conversion barrel in it and I've just ordered a .357sig conversion barrel for it. So, essentially, I can shoot three different rounds out of one gun, just by swapping the barrel out. Yes, when you go from .40 to 9 you should get a 9mm magazine, but you don't HAVE to. You can basically shoot all three rounds out of one magazine (the 40S&W).

So modularity is a great reason for any Glock, IMHO.

As you like, but I'll share that appendix didn't become a realistic EDC option for me until I bought a holster that had a sidecar, wedge, and claw. It's playing on easy mode, even with a G19, spare G17 mag, light, and optic. Before that I couldn't get away with more than a G26 in a plain AIWB holster, and that required dressing a certain way.

One doesn't have to be athletic, but having a chest wider than one's hips seems to help too.

What holster has “a sidecar, wedge, and claw”? Brand, model? Thanks

I think for me to appendix carry my Glock, it needs to be a holster that secures the gun- thumb break or something. I do prefer a hammerless revolver for appendix carry- much less painful. Sharp edges of semi’s poke into me. I don’t appendix carry my glcok anymore because I don’t have such a holster and when I’ve tried it, it hurts.

Primary carry with concealment holster (4 inch S&W Model 65 .357 Magnum and Bianchi #7)

Lookie here! It actually hides better under a Hawaiian shirt.

What else was under my shirt? A S&W Model 12-2 and a Ka-Bar TDI.

I don't live in the city anymore and highway travel drives the .357 Magnum carry since I can still shoot minute of bad guy at 100 yards with it.
