I'd like to thank all you guys for the great information on this forum, especially for the 1911, the only serious shooter I have.
There is a very thick notebook full of 1911 info residing on my bookshelf, thanks to this forum.
But, ironically, it's never been needed.
Way back in the early 90's a friend and I bought two new Springfields, a GI and a Milspec, '93 and '94 resp. In the years since, both have gone through upteen thousands of rounds without much of a hiccup. The normal loads used are uspsa major with lead 200gr swc over either 231 or Clays. The only loads that have given even a little bit of grief was the short, 155gr swc. Not bad there, either.
The mags are a loosely assembled bunch consisting of factory 7rds, McCormick 8rds and donated gunshow no-name 7rds. The followers are high, low, tapered lipped, and straight, all kinds. Other than an ocassional change of recoil spring, nothing has been required to make these run and run.
The mag springs are still original.
So, did we just get lucky? Were these made during some kind of mystical arrangement of stars or something?
Or is this more normal than all the conversations around the web would indicate?
Just curious.
Thanks.
