I just mailed my NRA application and fee.

What a long, strange, road this former liberal/quasi-communist, now increasingly conservative ungracefully aging hippie, has traveled over the past 35 years.

I've still not decided whether I want to buy a gun or not, though.

Good for you, JPL! You might want to make contact with some shooters here on THR and plan an informal shooting get-together. Whether you own a weapon or not, it harks back to an earlier time in America when "Every gentleman should know how to fire a gun..."

Whether you agree with the NRA on every policy choice they make or not, they really are the big dog of gun politics. Thanks for your support.

I'm still thinking about joining the NRA. However, I did just mail in my renewal to the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association.

Take it from a Native New Yorker/former Democrat/used to be afraid of guns/didn't believe you could have a right to own a piece of manmade metal/didn't even drive a car till I was 30...buy a gun. If for nothing else, the challenge of putting holes in paper, right where you want them, is enough of a reward. To that end I recommend starting like I did...with a .22. Then one day you too might also have 5 handguns! :D

Well, I'm lucky that I have a standing offer from one of my coworkers (he introduced me to this site when I expressed an interest in gaining more knowledge about firearms) that he will teach me to shoot anytime I want.

I've fired guns before, and even had, for a very brief time, a handgun that I got in partial payment for some work I did.

I fired it a couple of times just to say that I did, and then found out that it was worth a lot more than what was owed to me, so I sold it.

JPL,

Congratulations!

Last month, I paid off my EPL (Easy Pay Life). I have had my share of arguments (many) with the NRA, but figured since I had been a member since I was 18 and paying every year seemed fairly stupid on my part

Also, check out JPFO and any state org's that are for RKBA- those associations help, and I actually had paid off my TSRA Life before the NRA (now I will work on JPFO)
