I bought the son a new Crosman Challenger 2021 PCP air rifle for his AFJROTC marksmanship team shoots. Just got the sights mounted and the stock, palm rest and cheek rest adjusted. He will sight it in tomorrow and start getting ready for the season (starts soon).

I had bought a Challenger for him to shoot a couple of years ago, this has a more adjustable stock and pistol grip than the older model. The older one I donated to the team so another kid can shoot.

When the competition season starts I’ll post about how he does.

Stay safe.

Cool on you for the donation, getting others going that could not afford to. I did something like that with a rimfire, not the gun but money to the gun.

Anything to get more people.....more good people behind the trigger.

Good deal! Glad to see other programs are getting support from people like you .

Marksmanship support is an issue, especially here in the People’s Republik of California. A law was passed last year that prohibits firearm or shooting ads or outreach to people under 18. We were afraid it would put the kibosh on these high school JROTC marksmanship programs, but so far they have been out of the elected masters’ crosshairs, so to speak, When I got a good deal on the new Challenger 2021 I decided to give the other gun to the program rather than sell it to someone else to help keep it going.

With the passing of this idiotic law, I assume Eddie the Eagle and other youth gun-safety programs are also verboten. This flies in the face of the intent of the law (for the safety of children!) because it appears that no competent instruction on gun safety for youth can be advertised.

Yet video game companies can keep putting out games and ads directly aimed at youth for ever-more violent and realistic first-person shooter games because the 1A “allows” it . (And the anti’s wring their hands and wonder were the select few kids get the idea to think its ok to shoot up a school or their family!) The state is a case study on “the laws of unintended consequences” and how knee jerk responses without any thought or foresight causes more problems than the ones intended to address ( if it is even a problem to begin with!)

Vote smart and stay safe!

Shockingly enough, CA puts no constraints on the violent content of movies, made in their own state.

Guess Hollywood may have some clout the shooting hobby does not.

Good luck to your son!

I belong to an indoor range here in Northern California. I pay for my 14 year old grandsons membership also. He started high school in August and with his schedule of classes and soccer practice I didn’t renew his annual card. As a youth his membership is $9.99 a month, and since it is now $25.00 to shoot without membership I wanted to renew his card yesterday when we went to shoot. I was told they can not do youth memberships any more because of this law.

I went to membership to get a better understanding of this new policy. Their understanding is that youth membership is now prohibited by this new law. I was able to reinstate his old membership. These are good people that own this place and I know they have their attorneys working on this. They are ex LEO and do a great job of promoting training and safe shooting.

Our local outdoor range has suspended the regular youth shoots that they normally have until we get this new law figured out. Both ranges are afraid if they provide training and opportunities for youth they may be breaking this law. This could result in a $250,000 fine.

Great on your donation, really good to help out when you can. Not trying to highjack this thread or bring out the California haters. Just trying to help remind people to get out and vote.

Indeed, these laws can really put a crimp on teaching youth about firearm handling and safety.

If this impacts the JROTC program I will have standing and definitely be looking to an attorney to file a suit.

Stay safe.

What a great looking gun. Is that considered a 10 Meter setup? I had an old school Williams peep sight on my Weihrauch HW30 177 for a while this year. It was good for 10 yards and sometimes 30 yards. I went back to a V notch for more holdover options at distance.

It’s been a bit now. How has your son made out with this new Challenger? I am interested to hear some real world use and reviews of it. Nice job by way. :)

Yes, they shoot at 10m.
The bull is not much bigger than a pellet nose, maybe 5mm in size. Not easy to hit for sure.

Stay safe.

Weeellll,

The one I posted about had a stuck-open valve, which would not hold air when initially charged. :fire:

I called Champions Choice, the seller who I have bought other guns from, and their CS was awesome! The lady put aside a new one and sent a return label to me within minutes. I dropped it off at UPS that afternoon and she rush shipped it to me when I called with the tracking number.

The new gun was at home in two days, I set it up again and it works perfectly.

Disappointing part is two competitions were cancelled, one a straight shooting comp and one a biathlon (running-shooting, where he does best.) I didn’t get the reasons why, but the kids were not happy all their marksmanship practice so far hasn’t led to competing.

He has been active on their Raider teams as well (physical fitness competitions), working with them three mornings/five afternoons and shooting Tuesday -Thursday mornings. One of the other boys is shooting the donated rifle, so come spring they should be in good shape.

Stay safe.

That was what I was afraid of. Crosman QC, which has never been STELLAR, seems to be in the toilet so to speak. I can totally back up Champs Choice though, good people awesome store.

At least he can shoot it at home. :D

Take care, shoot safe.
Chris
