And it's my very first revolver.

1976 S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum with the 6"barrel.

Came with the original presentation box, tools and papers.....$500 :)

Nice very nice...however you may have inadvertently set the bar too high for future purchases....LOL

Thanks. It also came with a set of Pachmayr grips.

Now I just need to get my Lock-N-Load set up for 41 Mag.

Nice. The first revolver I ever bought was a 6" model 657. 11 years and 9 revolvers later, and it is still my favorite and the standard by which all the rest are judged.

You done real good :D You'll have to reload for this gun, ammo is pricey and sometimes hard to find. The sight of a pre-lock blued Smith is always a treat.

But its a Banger Punta gun. When it was made eveyone said it was junk just like they do on the new ones now. I have one I got around 15 years ago for 300 bucks and would not trade it for most anything.

.41 magnums do hold a strange allure for me though I may never own one. It's a pain in the neck reloading for .357 magnum and .44 magnum as it is. Still there is something just "awe" about it, oh wait awesome I should say. I want one but without a steady ammo supply on the commercial market it's hard to want to add another caliber to the reloading the list especially when my eye is drawn more and more to the .500 Linebaugh, but still great purchase I say with a note of envy.

I bought a NIB Smith & Wesson 4" model 57 .41 magnum back in 1971,
for a mere $175 + applicable sales tax. T'was the first caliber I ever
handloaded for, using old W-W 630P powder, Sierra 170 grain JHC
bullets, Federal LP primers, and Remington once fired cases. Enjoyed
playing with this "crown jewel" for a very long time; until I got a wild
hair up my a$$, and traded it for a factory nickel Birmingham Police
used S&W .44 magnum~! Big mistake, and ought too have my butt
kicked~! :uhoh: :cuss: :banghead:

Very nice purchase for your first revolver! Doesn't get any better than that. Years ago I had two .41 Magnums; a 4" Model 57 that someone had slicked up with a buttery smooth DA trigger pull, and a Model 58 that was my field gun.

A great find, for sure. Several .41s have passed through my hands and I could kick myself for letting some of them go. I have two I've managed to hang onto, A RBH and a 57.

Yeah, I bought a Bangor Punta M 57 in 1988 and it's the smoothest S&W I have ever shot. Some old smith had done an action job on it and when I picked it up and he told me to cycle it he just grinned. It is SLICK. It's staying in my family until they shovel some dirt over me. If you can handload for the .41 Mag you will have all that you'll ever need.

Nice snag you made there. I have a model 58 I would never sell. Enjoy and welcome to the .41 mag club.
