My new Ajax grips on my Stampede are now fitted (some NEW photos)

I was reading a thread or two here on THR about SAA clones and grips and decided to replace the original Beretta Stampede plastic grips with Ajax polymer grips. They needed quite a bit of fitting, but I lucked out. As simple as the skills might be for some of you, I didn't have them or some of the tools to make the fitting more efficient. The luck was that local beltmaker (incredible gunbelt maker!) Jim Speidel had some time for me Saturday and he did a great job for me. This guy makes great grips and holsters too, but he just doesn't have the time to make them for others...at least right now. Oh, I did buy the brown holster from him. And that belt is one of my four Beltman belts I got from him. You owe it to yourself to check out Jim Speidel's holsters. Just a satisfied customer who gets no remuneration for pluggin' this dude. Pardon the expression, pardner! :D

Grip color in the top two photos is closer than the whiter color in the bottom two photos.
Stampede in Jim Speidel holster and belt. I'll be getting a western belt with cartridge loops from Jim by end of year!

This closeup really shows off the Texas medallion I had Ajax add.
It's also the best color representation of the grips.

Wow, the grips really accentuate the SAA look of it. Stunning revolver. The sepia tone makes it look like you pulled it right out of the Wild West. Again, stunning :what:

Wouldn't have thought that ivory-colored grips would look right on a case hardened gun, I guess I was wrong. Looks real slick, I've been looking to get some new grips for my Gauchos, wonder if Ajax makes grips for them yet?

How's the profile on that set of grips, are they somewhat oversized? Are your fingers long like the piano player or regular? Wondering about the fit to your hands.

That's a right handsome looking sixgun. I like the star emblem.

Genuine ivory is so beautiful but obscenely expensive. I have a 3rdG Colt and I wanted genuine ivory on it so one Christmas I bit the bullet and shelled out $500 to a stock maker who got glowing reports from gun magazine writers. He must have been bribing them. I wasn't thrilled with the end result. Stocks feel too bulky and the emblems do not match location one side to the other. Rather shoddy for $500 in my book. But, there they are.

Here's a pair of Uberti SAA clones. A couple years ago Uberti cleared out some accessories including these fake ivories at $25 each. I bought two sets and they were even worse than the previous set I discussed on feel. Like shaking hands with a 2x4. This is my common complaint with aftermarket stocks. They are almost always so thick and chunky feeling. My gunsmith gave them to his apprentice to shape for me saying it would be a good learning experience since he hadn't done this before. Only $50 to lose so why not? He did a really good job and they feel great now. He only charged me $20 to shape the pair. What a deal. After seeing yours I realize that I really need to mount some sort of emblems on these.

A word to the wise about Ajax--read their return policy carefully. I returned a set of grips that did not fit (after speaking on the phone with the company before purchase) and they would NOT return my money. Instead, Ajax gives you a "credit." Shoddy way to do bidness, IMO.:fire:

I've got a set of the Ultra Ivory's (Gunfighters) on DEEP backorder from Eagle Grips. Their website states 3 weeks for delivery. They've had my money for almost 2 months now. I've given them lots of phone calls and an E-mail explaning my displesure with them. But I'm anxioulsy awaiting their arrival to put them on my stainless Vaquero.
Just keep this in consideration if ordering from Eagle.

I am 5'6" 155 lbs and of average hand size...square hands with average finger length. The polymers on the Stampede are a bit more to hold than the stock plastic grips but are in no way too much to grip. In fact, I prefer the grip size with the Ajax.

I comfortablly hold my Sig 228 and consider my 226 about the max in my grip and prefer slimmer. (I prefer a 1911 to anything! :D ) Anything thicker than a 226 is more than I want to hold. The Ajax grips leave plenty of room.

Yup, they do state that clearly. I always read a seller's policies before I buy and ask questions if policies aren't clear. That's why I went to Jim to fit them. I figured if he couldn't do it, no one could and I could complain about the quality of the grips, and so on. Of course, as it turned out, that wasn't necessary.
