Does anybody have a Beretta Stampede? If so I have minor questions...

Folks,

In researching SA revolvers, the Stampede is getting considerably praise. It's basically a high-end-spec Uberti with a Beretta-designed transfer bar safety that appears to work at least as well as the Ruger New Model equivelent, although it's a bit more "square" versus "flat". No biggie.

Beretta has now introduced a variant with a 3.5" barrel and "Lightning-type" grip frame, called the "Stampede Marshall":

OK, that's pretty neat. 'Cept for three problems:

1) It's not shipping much yet - gunsamerica and gunbroker have zero between them just yet.

2) I'd personally prefer a 4.68" barrel - more ejector rod stroke, better ballistics (since it's limited to SAA-class 20,000psi-max 45LC loads, and should do most practice work with 15,000-class loads).

3) Costs - this new variant won't be discounted much for a good long while.

I've handled this same grip frame before and really dig the feel - it's a prior Uberti product, as found on guns like:

Based purely on the pics and the fact that they're both basically Uberti, they appear 100% identical. (Note too that Beretta is offering this new grip frame VERY early in the Stampede's life (it was brand new last year) so it seems likely they just noticed it on Uberti's parts list and bolted it straight on with little R&D required...)

Cimarron is a Uberti reseller that does some additional QA/tuning/specs in the US.

It turns out Cimarron's prices for the "Thunderer" grip frame/grips parts are VERY reasonable - $115 total for basic wood grips and the two halves of the grip frame.

Reviewing the parts lists and schematics at http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/Parts/model-p.htm shows that both grip variants take the same mainspring, hammer and other lockwork parts.

Huh.

In other words, it LOOKS like I can buy a standard 4.68" barrel or longer Stampede and bolt the Cimarron "Thunderer" grip frame bits to it. Barring moderate fitting of course.

Questions:

1) Does this SOUND right?

2) Does anybody know for sure whether or not the Stampede takes standard Colt/Uberti-type mainsprings? If it does, that'd be proof positive this is all basically the same inside.

3) Can anybody tell me whether or not the Stampede base pin end is plain like a Colt, or has a little spring-loaded end pin to push the transfer bar back, as on a Ruger New Model? If the Stampede runs the same sort of pin as a Colt/Uberti, then a Belt Mountain Colt pin should work.

4) Finally, looking back at that Cimarron parts catalog we see 45ACP cylinders :). What's the odds one of THOSE can be fitted to a 45LC Stampede (conversion to "convertible")?
