Or, Nightcrawler buys a gun that isn't a .45. (Well, I had one pistol before that wasn't a .45. It was a .41 Magnum. Heh.)

Picked this up today. S&W 624, .38 Special. Didn't get, nor did I want, the .357 snubby next to it. I wanted a plane-jane, snag-free, no-frills .38.

Odd. I adore this little gun. It's not big bore, and it certainly wouldn't be my first choice in a fight. But it's so portable and so light! And...classy. A snubby revolver just oozes refinement and style, in my opinion. Something to carry with a tux, I think. (I think Jeff Cooper said something about the .38 Snub being the gentleman's pistol for dressy occasions.)

I understand that learning to shoot a snubby well is challenging. I look forward to becoming proficient with this piece!

Nightcrawler,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the 642 Club. Very nice picture.

Now, come on over and join officially----wait! I see you already have.

Nah, they aren't hard to shoot if you shoot revolvers. The guys that haven't paid their dues on a double action learning to shoot do have a hard time though......

Very nice - congratulations. Something just like that may well be my next purchase. Certainly, one of my next purchases. Hey ... .38 is fun to shoot. And in an airweight, it's enough 'snap' for my old wrists. I've been busted up and twisted enough over all these years that stepping up to .357 means a K or L frame. At least, if I want to shoot the crap out of it like I seem to everything else. ;)

While a 2.5" K is easy enough to keep on your hip, that 642 is real nice for concealment options. One of the things that makes your idea of it as the gun to have at formal occasions such a good one.

She Sure is purty. I wanna hear how ya like her at the range. :)

Love your choice. Have you done the 'Happy New Gun' dance yet?

:uhoh: uh oh....you guys prepare for my "cant hit anything!" thread when I pick up my 642 tomorrow and get to the range:p

:D

HSMITH is most likely right. This may well be quite a humbling experience for you, but only at first. You'll get use to her - honest. If you've really not shot a lot of DA with a revolver, certainly you may just start tossing them all around for a whiile.

Use a full size target at a reasonable range (ie: < 10 yards) and you'll see where you're hitting.

And buck up. That's an S&W, I'll bet she has a wonderful trigger.

And if you find you can't stand the dao snubbie? Well - you could always just stick her in the Janitor's closet. ;)

oh i know, my ego is fully prepared to be crushed. My thinking is the gun fits me ergonomically, so thats not an issue. If I need to spend a lot more time with it getting to where I need to be so be it, I think if I can get good with the smallest DAO wheelgun, it should help all of my other pistol shooting as well. At least I hope so

if not however, the blame lies entirely on THR and that damnable '642 Club' thread:neener:

Yes, there just IS something about snubbies!

My first ever gun pix (taken or posted; hope I did this right):

A very wise statement. Learning to shoot a DA wheelgun of any size will do wonders for your shooting of handguns overall, and do it at a rate faster than you can imagine. Get it, do your best to wear it out and go from there. They make more every day, don't hesitate to wear this one out.

Start slow, stroke the trigger right through disturbing the sights as little as you can. Unload the gun, move any and all the ammo out of the room, 'shoot' the TV, pictures on the wall, candles, whatever you can see that has a safe backstop behind it. Basements are great places to do this, concrete walls and tons of stuff laying around waiting for you to 'shoot' it. Be safe, but do all of this you can stand for a while.

Texagun, nice gun, but isn't that a Model 36?

Nope, it's an old Model 10. I still have the original Model 36 I carried in Vietnam but don't have a picture of it. This is my Model 60, which is the stainless version of the 36. Snubbies are great guns...I am still partial to them after 47 years.

Texagun, who makes that holster? I'm looking for an IWB that holds its shape a little better than the one I have. That one looks nice.

It is a Don Hume H-715-M IWB. They make them up in Oklahoma. Give them a call...they are very nice folks to deal with and they make great holsters. I use them for all my carry guns.

Texagun: Nice pieces. I stand corrected, Sir!

Janitor: I'll bet you can clean up any mess with that 19.

One of these days I'm gonna have to graduate from 5 to 6 in the 2" category! Preferrably in the .357 league. One thing's for sure though, I'll never sell or trade a S&W snubby!

Monster Snubby

Snubby...did someone say "Snubby?" I like the snubs. Here is my S&W 629-5 Camfour Snub. It is .44 Magnum, has fixed sights and a 2.5" barrel. In the year 2000, S&W made 300 of these for Camfour Distributing Company. This one is #013.

Not only is she a great broom, but at close range with the right load she's a bit of a flamethrower. :)

Cocked & Locked - Simply awsome. Beautiful piece. BTW - Is that a Brandenburg print we see in the background?

Texagun - You still have the 36 you had in Vietnam? So too cool! If for some stupid, bizzare reason you ever come up this way, bring it along and let me take some pictures. *please* I'd love to see her.

So then she not only cleans, she sanitizes as well. Amazing!
:ROTFL:

I think I'll look for something more conventional to clean the coffee off my keyboard.
