I was supposed to go shooting at the club yesterday; but the range is on a flat inland sandplain -- and the temperature was nudging 112F there. :what: So I stayed home in the airconditioning and polished bullets. :cool:

It hit 108F in Perth today. That's three days in a row over 104F. Minumums have been running around 75F -- pretty uncomfortable for sleeping (our bedroom's NOT airconditioned :()

"Cool change" expected tomorrow -- 90F -- before heading straight back to 98F until end of week or thereabouts.

And this is **autumn**?? (sorry, **fall**)

We're generally lucky (sic) that we have a dry heat; for example, current humidity is 24%. The downside to that is the "breeze" feels like standing in front of a hairdryer. We have had some days this summer, though, with the humidity up in the 60s or higher.

Fortunately, most days we get the "Fremantle Doctor" -- a late afternoon sea breeze (i.e. sou-wester off the ocean) that drops the temperature by as much as 10 degrees an hour.

I spent years living in the Mojave and Sonora deserts in the SW U.S., and 120 with 6% humidity is tolerable, but one summer day it was 120 and about 25% ahead of the darkest dust storm I've ever seen. That plumb melted this feller! :uhoh:

At least evaporative coolers work for you! :D
 
Wise choice, Bruce.....

There are a lot of summer days here in Alice when 'the dust is up'
or the heat mirage makes shooting seem too much like work!:)

Then there are the bushflies:rolleyes: ,
but at least we don't ever have to shovel snow to get to the range!

I wonder if that heat is headed this way? Time to sight-in the Marlin before it gets here.
 
I noticed that 115-120F in the Mojave is MUCH more tolerable than 95F with 90% here and you knew it was going to cool of at night in the Mojave I have worked many 85F plus nights down here
 
Yup. I lived on the Mojave a few years ago, and it was one of the best places to shoot I've ever found. Sure, it could get hot around there, but overall, it wasn't too bad..... It IS a dry heat. <g>
 
Too hot to Shoot!

Well, we here on the east coast of Australia also get it hot and we still are able to go shooting! Although not up in the 40s (Thats Deg Cent.), it was very hot in Roma, in western Queensland last weekend, for the Annual Fund raiser for Flying Doctors. Temp was abot 32deg C with very high humidity, (they have had some rain but need lots more) and we shot Clay Targets from Friday afternoon through Sat. to late Sunday evening. Saturday night was a great concert on the local Roma Racetrack with many Country/Western/Rock Musicians (including Lee Kearnagan) and about 3000 people in attendance. Shooters travelled from as far away as Cobar (NSW), MacKay, Mt. Isa and Cloncurry and a team came up from the Gold Coast...one driving his Jaguar sports car (this in a region where anything less that a Toyota Landcruiser is considered a kids car!)
Total raised was approx Aust Dollars 30,000
For those of you not familiar with Australia, the Flying Doctor Service operates over most of inland Australia (an area about one third the size of USA) and has Doctors and Nurses fly their planes into rough country strips, to treat all sorts of bush accidents and farming injuries. The service is vital but receives very little Government funding, in spite of the fact that it has been called into service at short notice, for such emergencies as the Bali Bombings. Australia would grind to a halt if it wasn't for our volunteer services, and then we get "kicked in the guts" just because some of us are gun owners...
I now drive in Sydney with a window sign on my car reading "Shooters Support the Flying Doctors".
 
Come on Bruce, Wanneroo isn't that bad. It fun to lay down with the local wildlife ( tics & fleas & ants) coming round for a drink. Been a while since I've sent a few 7.62x51 downrange there and got paid for it.

Here, it's usually too hot or too cold to go to the outdoor range. Too bad I don't know of any indoor rifle ranges here...

Never thought it got that hot in Australia though... at least summers here are a dry heat 90% of the time.
 
Here in the sacred lair environs, it has been rather cold and snowy. We've have over five feet of snow in the past couple months and has rarely gotten above freezing. But the past couple days, it has warmed up enough to melt most of the snow. Now it's below freezing again.

you can drive up to Cottonwood, AZ. It's NEVER too hot and it's NEVER too cold - just right ALL the time. And they used to have lots of places around there you could shoot. ;)

Here in the REAL Land of Oz (or Ahhhs) :D , we're better off than Wisconsin, but it still ain't much fun shootin' outside at 25 or 30 degrees F, with a gentle 15-25 mph breeze outta the north blowin' in yer face. :what:
 
Hey Bruce could you lend me some of your country's excess heat? It has been too cold here to stay outside for more than 2 minutes. Probably won't be able to shoot outside until May.
 
It was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit here today, but it's supposed to get to 55F tomorrow. Saturday was like that--clear, blue skies, and almost 70 degrees for about three hours. Then it turned gray and bitter cold again within about half an hour.

Ah, Spring!
 
It was 22 degrees when I woke up and had to do some stuff outside this morning but should be a balmy 40 later.

I grew up in Texas and while you do tend to get used to the high 90s or low 100s if you're not having to do much, I remember one year at the Texas Jam, it was about 115 and about 90% in the stadium... people were cheering and just passing out all over the place. I remember thinking I really liked Metallica but I didn't want to die listening to them. :p
 
Actually south central Arizona is just about perfect right now.

WE have about 8 months of good shooting weather.

The only time it's to hot to shoot is between the end of May
and the middle of Sept.
