I was using 30gr Pyrodex Pellets shooting 210gr BigLube bullets in my 5 1/2" with excellent accuracy....as a side note, using Dick Dastardly's Tower of Power loading stand made child's play out of loading conical bullets. I was crazy not to use something like this before...
I just fired off a few rounds of triple 7, also using 210gr BigLube bullets. I dropped down to 25gr and while I didn't have a chance to check the accuracy I did notice a couple or really interesting things. 25gr of Triple 7 definitely had more recoil than 30gr of Pyrodex. It also shot silly clean.
I had previously removed the Treso nipples and cleaned scrubbed it all as clean as I could. Then I put it in the dishwasher and the cylinder bores and barrel came out looking absolutely new and unfired afterward. It really shocked me.
I loaded and fired a single cylinder of trip 7 and I could hardly tell the difference between the one I fired and the other 5. It was really amazing how clean this stuff shoots. I'm really hoping it's as accurate as the Pyrodex.
The dirtiest part were the nipples. The primers fired far, far filthier than the powder. Within 6 shots the nipples and back of the cylinder were black and greasy. I used Winchester Magnum primers...anyone know if different primers shoot cleaner than others? I thought they were all pretty much the same.
