Received my K-31 today, and fell in love. I looked up instructions to disassemble the bolt, and of course found them here:

http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/rheadrick/k31bolt.html

I didn't get very far, just took the operating bar and put it back on. Only after putting the bolt back in, it doesn't seem to cycle as smoothly as it did when I first got it.

No pictures accompanied the reassembly part of the instructions, but since I didn't get that far, and it seems simple, I figured there wouldn't be a problem. My primary question is there is only 1 way to get that operating bar back on correct?

Next question would be could something have gotten shifted on the inside when I took of the operating handle? I left the cocking/safety wring in the 45 degree position, so it never moved.

Maybe I'm just misremembering how it cycled.

Also, is there a way to remove a bolt that is cocked and in the forward position? Or is dry firing the only way to get it to cycle again?

Thanks

Well, going by everything it is assembled correctly.

Perhaps I'm just imagining things.

Thanks for the replies

don't worry. there is nothing you could have possibly done that would have damaged the bolt. My guess is that maybe you need to lube things again.

well, ive lubed it, and it still seems a bit tight. I'll go back and give it another scrubbing and greasing. Any good way to get the chamber clean? Does the drill/20ga brush trick for mosins work?

there is a dedicated brush tool for that usually.

But as it is not a semi auto gun, the chamber isnt dirty usually-

what ammo will you be shooting ? Gp90 or Partizan maybe ?

well, im not really looking for after firing. more like to help get the cosmo junk out of it.

I guess its the breech actually that im looking to clean of cosmo. I'm not interested in taking it apart and dunking it on hot water.

I was going to get one at Classicarms, but when I ordered the only ones they had in stock were good condition ones minus the trooper ID tag which I wanted.

So I ended up ordering from Samco. Bought a sling from them too.

how much is one worth over there ? here, without the diopter, they range from 50$ to 120$

the diopter is very expensive, and is about 300$ at least.-

You're looking at around $200 for one. The trooper tag or tiger stripe walnut stock will run a bit more, the beech furniture ones will run you a few bucks less.

I suppose if I actually hunted around for one I could find a great deal, but that appears to be the going internet price.

How stout is the recoil of the 7.5x55mm? what other calibers would you compare it to?

Thanks .308. I'm looking for a managable rifle/caliber combo for my G-F, and the K seems to fit the bill, and still be affordable.

Nice rifles drxring. Looks like the one on top has been refinished and the one on bottom was used in Swiss competitions maybe? Did they come with the micrometer rear sights?

Private Series K31 rifles

.

Thanks. Both are original condition. I imported them directly
from Switzerland. They are Private Series rifles. Bern sold
450 or so rifles each manufacturing year to private Swiss citizens.
These rifles have a separate serialization from service rifles. The
adjustable rear sight is called a Furter. It is adjustable for windage
and elevation. This was added by the shooter. Except for the
different serialization they are indentical to service rifles.

The second rifle was used in matches as it has a match acceptance
tag on the handguard, as you can see the red tag in the pic.
This shooter also place a St. Hubertus medal on the handguard.
St. Hubertus is a patron saint of hunting for the Swiss.

I did not know that original K31's had blued butt plates until I got
these in. :)

very nice rifles !!!

If you want to refinish them originally, the product that was used is called "Gomme-Laque" in french.. I must admit I have no idea what is the english translation, but I will look for that. I bet this product can be found in the USA as well, but if it wasnt, if any of you need some, let me know. I can pick it up for you and ship it to you (not at my charges though :) )
