I've heard rumors that there are no more spare 4" barrels for the S&W Model 19. That's too bad, because I have a 2" Model 19 that I really want to rebarrel to 4". Looking around, my available options include the Model 10 Heavy Barrel in 4 1/8", as well as the stainless Model 66 barrel in 4".

The Model 10 Heavy Barrel is a .38 Special barrel, I don't know if the twist is right for .357 Magnum, and the threaded barrel shank and forcing cone are probably a smidgen too long for the Model 19, so would require some modification.

The Model 66 barrel is stainless, of course. I know some folks have come up with a process for blueing stainless steel, and I doubt that the stainless/carbon steel interface of such a hybrid would cause too many corrosion problems.

Or are there sources other than S&W and Brownell's that have good 4" Model 19 barrels?

Here's some other sources, although the 21/2" S&W Model 19 is probably more valuable as is.
Considering the cost, even if you find a barrel, and the cost of having it fitted, you'd be MUCH better off just buying a new 4" M19.

http://www.jackfirstgun.com/ Pros shop here first.

http://www.parts4guns.com/ They seem to have 4" Model 19 barrels, but they are restricted to gunsmiths only.

http://www.e-gunparts.com/ Gun Parts seem to be out, but they often have items not listed.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with the above poster. I think it would be a shame to modify your 19 from its original condition. Especially considering that 4" M19s are a fairly common find and command very reasonable prices. I don't know if you yourself are a smith qualified to do the work, but if not the cost of the barrel and the work would likely not be considerably less ( if at all ) than a 4" M19 would be. The 19 though does tend to be one of those guns that seems to be an incredible bargain some places, and overpriced in others.

The barrel is not all that is different between a 2 1/2 incher and a 4" model 19. The ejector rod has to be changed out also. Trade the gun on a 4" and call it good.

I already have a nice 4" Model 19, hence me wanting another one.

Kinda like the Princess Leia in the gold bikini thing, but I'm a bit closer to actually having a pair of 4" Model 19s, if I an just convert the shorter one to a 4" variant. That, or I'll keep an eye open for another 4" Model 19, and trade off or sell the 2.5" version. The 4" K-Frame just appeals to me as an all-around excellent balance and heft. I have a 3" 696 L-Frame, and it also seems nicely balanced for the length.

The 2.5" model just leaves me cold, hence my wanting to convert it.
