L is heavier and larger, lending itself to better control of the .357 and is able to handle other, larger rounds.
Had a 6-shot 65 .357 K once, traded it for a 7-shot, .357 Smith 620 (L frame)--and man, I love my 620. The extra weight makes full-house .357 rounds feel much better.
