K22 date of mfgr by serial number

I'm trying to determine when a K22 with s/n K 308301 was made so I know if it qualifies as a C&R or not. The original K22 was made between 1931 and 1940 so that would be C&R. Then the Model 17 K22 Masterpiece came out again from 1986-1994 and that would not be C&R. A s/n lookup should set things straight. The seller has no info on when it was made and I prefer to buy C&R whenever possible. That saves me $40-50 in state and transfer fees. Is there any online database with that kind of info?

According to "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson", the K22 was made in 1957.
Put it on layaway for a couple years.

If that K22 is in good shape I suggest you definitely get it, C&R or not. These were great firearms, I just picked up a 1955 model (still the 5-screw variety) and hope to post some pics later today.
