K31 or 1911 Swiss

Good luck finding a 1911. If you do, snatch it up. K31s are all over. They also made a 1911 carbine apparently, but I've never seen one.

As far as accuracy, it might depend on the particular rifle more than anything. The 1911 rifle would have a bit more velocity and the round would have slightly less drop at longer ranges. It would also have a slightly longer sight radius. However, the K31 has more than a few design improvements. I'd say it's the better rifle overall.

The K31 is a good, solid and accurate firearm. But it's still considered a "carbine" by the Swiss. The 1911 is the real rifle, and stands as one of the finest war rifles ever made by any nation. I've shot both, and while both are fun the 96/11 I had took it to new levels. It's a superlative firearm. With the GP-11 ammunition it can win a lot of matches. If you have a chance to get a 1911 or 96/11 for a reasonable price, grab it. The supply from Switzerland dried up long ago and they're nowhere near as common as the K-31's.

The 1911 rifle was 51.5" long and weighed in at 10.03 lbs. Believe me, it's still a lot to haul around.

Yeah, but it's a very lean and well balanced piece. I've toted one around with little difficulty. The 1911 is a rifle that brings a smile when you pick it up. You can feel the balance of the thing, and it's amazing how well it swings for all its size.

Ah, for the good old days. I remember when the 1911 and even 1889 S-Rs were fairly available and the K31 a mystery weapon of the Alps. The first I ever saw advertised for sale in the US long before the Swiss started surplusing them in quantity was $1200.

The 1911 is really a wonderful rifle. Sure its long and heavy but its so well balanced it feels easier to hold than many rifles 3 pounds lighter. It will also give you some more accuracy over the standard K31s.

The 1911 Carbine is about the same length as the K31.

The internals are a tad different between a 1911 and k31. The bolt and reciever is significantly longer in the older model. This also means that on the 1911 the magazine sits a few inches forward of the trigger guard. It also means that the K31 barrel is a couple of inches longer than the 1911 carbine, even if the rifle is far longer.

The K31 has its lugs at the end and so can hold more powerful rounds than the older 1911, and handle about 500psi over both the older firearms.

Both Carbines are sighted up to 1500 metres at 100 metre intervals. The full sized 1911 is sighted up to 2000 metres.

The cost is the main difference nowadays. 30-40 years ago the 1911 was at most a $100 rifle but ammo was quite rare so those imported tend to have had little shooting through them. When the K31 first came out in the US it could demand $400-500 a piece though now with supply so high they are worth closer to $100 and if you can even find a 1911 the price has really gone up, and I seen them sell for $600-800 in places.

If you want a great shooter I would recommend the K31. If you can find a Swiss 1911 for any sort of reasonable price though its well worth picking up. Mine has become one of my favourites.
