I came home with a new Kahr CW 45 today.

I had been looking for a not to big .45 auto to carry. I like the size, the weight,
the price, and the feel of it. I won’t get a chance to shoot it or test fire it for a while.

So what do I need to know?

How much is the best I can hope for in accuracy?
Any help is appreciated.

There's a review at gunblast.com. I would link you but I'm on my iPhone. Just search the archives.

EDIT: Oops! My bad - you typed CW45 and I was thinking PM45. Sorry.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the accuracy. The trigger may need a bit of familiarization, but that should come quickly. IMHO it makes a great CCW. I didn't enjoy shooting +P out of the light gun, but regular loads were very controlable. Sights are not changable, that's the bad news if you want night sights.

Kahrs are very tight guns. Keep it lubed and it should work fine. Great guns, especially for the price.

I also have the CW45......great little pistol. If I had a complaint, it would be the fore part of the grip has the little "beads" for lack of a better word molded into it......they sorta wear on my little tender snow white Ivory hands after awhile.....thought about getting a wrap around grip for it. As far as accuracy goes, it shoots where I aim it...........not necessarily where I meant to connect though!!!! Carry mine in a Mitch Rosen holster......light enough that I forget it's there.....Just remember, it's built for a defense weapon which normally means a target up to 15 feet or so away.

Enjoy......

hell codger, u probably can't see any further than 15 feet anyway!!!!

Hey Jocko, if he's farther than 15 feet, I'll just try to out run him!!!! If he's closer than 15 feet, I'll try to talk him to death!! :scrutiny:

I was utterly amazed at the incredible accuracy of these little guns.
I spent a couple weeks prepping for my CCW certification shoot, which is at 21 ft in our county in CA, three magazines worth would all be contained within a single 1 3/4" hole at that range.

One note... after a lot of shooting of PM9, P40, P9, and CW45, all but the P9 had a velvet smooth, constant trigger pull. My P9 would load up near sear-break. I swapped in the Wolff 5lb spring and the P9 joined the ranks of the other flavors.

Old Codger: I had the same prob as you with tender hands. Couldn't stand shooting my P45 till I took some sandpaper to them and sanded those pin points down to what felt right to me. Easy to do and you can't see that
anything has been done to them...no marking, scoring, etc.
Lots of folks do this to the Kahrs.

Tinker2: Rack the slide back and forth a couple hundred times, or till your arm fall off, whichever comes first, to give it a "pre-shoot" breakin. I did that with mine and it never faltered.

better yet

send your polymer kahr to accurate-iron.com and havemike 360 degree stipple it. What aidifference it will make, feel and controability for me was much better. Course I don't have pussy fingers like ol codger does:neener::neener:

No kinddin Mike can do a number on kahrs that you won't believe. He did a super slide melt job also on my PM9 along with the slight grip reduction and compelte stippleing of the gun. Sure looks mean......

Jocko - have you lost your mind??!

I'm talking about pictures, dude! All that talk and no pics! :p

dog me

go to ar15.com and hit on the kahr site and then hit on the my custom PM9 by porsche and see some awesome pm9 custom work done by accurate iron and also cylinder and slide.

or go to the elsie pea fourm and hit on jockos customPM9 for same photos.

Hope that will suffice..

Gentlemen

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.

Well, I got a chance to shoot it, the day was windy, cold and muddy and the gun shot great. I started at 10 paces. I kept increasing the range till I got to 40 yards before I could not hit my target. The targets that I was using are golf balls. So I guess that 30 yard, off hand, golf balls just isn’t to bad.

I only shot 15 rounds because of the cold and wind and I am just dying to go back out when it’s not, to see if I can do that again.

Are any of you getting that kind of performance or did I just get lucky?

You can tell I like it, right?

Thanks

Yeowwweww Tinker!!!

I'll do my best never to make you angry!!!!! By the way, Jocko couldn't do that with golf club!!

Tinker,

Can you do a video of yourself shooting golf balls at 38 yards on a windy day with this little gun? That's awesome!

ulfyler. I was going to say the same thing. These kahrs are awesome at 50 yards at 50 gallon drums but at golf balls. This fella ought to be shootin for Kahr.

Course I will admit I am not a good shot

Always considered myself a fair shot. I have the Kahr CW45 and I love it. Got up this morning and drove to the country. Found a bull in a pasture. Stepped off 20 yards. Yep, you're ahead of me. As much as I love my little Kahr, I proved to myself that I can't hit a bull in the............asscribed area at 20 yards!!!! Tinker, I trust that you're a young man because you have quite a career ahead of you!!

My above response revisted

I got to thinking.....I'm a much better shot than that. I went back to the country and rechecked the aforementioned bull beginning at the desired point of impact. There were definitely powder burns in that area in the form of dry scales (I use a slow burning powder to lessen the recoil). This time I also checked the bulls teeth. The space between his two upper front teeth had a definite hole about the size of a .45 round. The only explanation that I can come up with??

He must have been swishing his tail because of the enormous number of flies around him..that would explain why the tail was unscathed. He also must have been belching at the exact time of the bullet's entry which would have made the entry shot a dead on, straight through shot, accounting for the hole between the upper front teeth. This would also account for the 14 point buck that I discovered laying (or is it lying?) in the prone position 200 yards down range. By this time, the hollow point had expanded to the size that it only knocked the wind out of the buck. As he got back on his feet and fled, he looked back over his shoulder with a big grin at me.

I'll have to admit that this trip back to the country has renewed my confidence in my little Kahr and also in my ability to shoot the shot as it should be shooted. ;)

UltraLightFlyerer, thanks for the tip. Think I'll give the sandpaper a try. If I mess up, I can always wrap the grip with electrical tape!!!!!

By the way, what UL do you fly? I have a brother in law into UL....flies a two seater and also has a lookalike Piper Cub. I have 6 1/2 hours and approximately 30 landings in a C'150. ........having fun until IRS decided that I'd made a bad mistake on my tax return and needed my money more than the FI did!! Just mebbe one of these days!

I know, hard to believe, what can I say.
I live in the great plains, the prairie, most things are a long ways away. I am a good shot, not great. I have had a lot of guns in my life and I have shot more shots then most.

Not to worry I don’t have an enemy alive in the whole world.

“Tinker, I trust that you're a young man”
I wish, I am old and somewhat crippled up. It is the reason that I didn’t shoot more shots.

Golf balls don’t show up well at that distance?

The Kahr CW45 shot very well.

That is absolutely phenomenal shooting, particularly with the little short barreled CW45. I can only imagine what you could do with a longer barreled gun such as my Sig P220 or Taurus PT1911SS!!! Or even my Ruger MarkIII Target Slabside with it's 6 3/4 incher.....

My best braggin' shot ever was at 50 yards. Bench shooting my Ishmash Russian made single shot .22 target rifle with scope using Wolf MT ammo (If my Redhead knew exactly what I paid for that set up, I'd be single again!). There was a fly crawling on the target and I blasted him. Although I don't have a picture confirming the distance, I do have a picture of the target and the splattered remains of the fly along with my son's sworn statement!! That's not really braggin' material for the serious shooter but for an OleCodger like me with cateracts, rheumatism, lumbago, ringing in my ears, shakin' hands, and Jocko constantly badgering me, it ain't that bad!!!!!

Happy Shootin' and be safe........ If I ever need a backup, I'll call you!
