Kahr CW9 and CW45 owners chime in and help me out!

I'm thinking about cashing out of the G26 and picking up both of these guns, CW45 for IWB and CW9 for smartcarry.

What do those of you who own these think about them? reliability?accuracy? I dont really care about recoil but any advice on these two would be appreciated, these would be my first Kahrs. I love the way they feel and point and I even like the sights. Thanks
 
i own a Kahr CW9 and think its awesome. I rented a CW40 at the range and its recoil is comparable, IMO, to a lightweight, small frame .357. The 45 would have more push than snap, but it only weighs 2 or 3oz more than the 9mm.

As far as reliability, they have a 200rd break in period, where some malfunctions might happen, but i never had any. I only have 500rd through her, but none to date.

I think it is one of the easiest pistols to conceal, that is offered in ballistically superior cartridges. Its is more ergonomical than the 2 Glocks i used to own, plus it points extremely well. I like how i can actually place my pinky on the grip, wheres alot of sub compact pistols wont allow it. I barely notice it on me when i carry.

The only bad thing is its capacity, but its well worth the trade for everything else the firearm offers

EDIT: So IMO, sell the Glock. Cut your losses.
 
IMO: Keep the Glock, and get one of the mouseguns of your choice. Continually shoot the mouseguns, keep the G26 IWB (or wherever you conceal it), use mousegun for backup.

I think you'll regret selling the G26 later on. Yeah, that is my opinion, and could very well be wrong... but on another forum (ehem... GT) I've seen plenty of posters always talk about "sellers remorse"... where they regretted selling their Glock later on for another pistol.

Worst case scenario: You truly hate the Glock (?), love the mousegun(s) you have... so just sell the Glock then. But beforehand? I'd strongly suggest against this. Just me, though. ;)

Remember: Glock durability, reliability, simplicity, higher capacity, huge aftermarket for replacement and enhancement parts, great forum (www.GlockTalk.com :D), etc. etc. You can also heat up the back of the grip and push it in, if you "hate" the "hump" down there. ;)

Well, to me, guns are tools, and tools which are best when: Simple, reliable, durable, and have higher capacity than the usual others. These're tools to save your life one day, not lawn chairs you need to be comfortable (feely touchy crap :p) sitting on for hours in the Sun. When the SHTF, "feel" won't mean squat... especially when a criminal is runnin at you with a knife.

I have a G19 love it, it basically is my safe queen anymore, fun gun to shoot, just not fun to carry or even try to carry. I won't dress to carry. Had it not been for kahrs great line of ccw handguns, that have alot of glock in the upper slide for sure and in the lower grip area, the kahr is 3X simpler made than the glocks and smoother than glass in the trigger area. I can't put my G19 in my front pocket, I can put my pm9 in my front pocket. It goes bang every time, to this day has never let me down, fired every time for 12,650 rounds. I can't ask it to do more. It weights almost half of the glock. So to own both and shoot only one, IMO makes no sense, unlless you have mnoney to spare, then indeed nice to have a variation. for protection and carry to me the kahr line fills every need. My glock has never failed every, course we all knew that..

I shoot corbon in my kahr pm9 . The dpx is my carry round. Now I have not shot a 1000 rounds of +p out of any gun, just do damn expensive to do so, I shoot WWB 9mm and anything I can find low priced for range use. they are built like a brick sh-thouse IMO.
 
dunno that I'd call a Kahr CW9 or CW45 "mouse guns". Even a PM9 is substantially bigger than your prototypical "mouse gun", and a CW9 has a 3.6" barrel and nearly a full-size grip (.5" longer than a PM9). Kahr CW9 is just a notch smaller than a G19. Definitely anything with 9mm or 45ACP can hardly be considered a mouse gun, right?

mouse gun or not I really dig the CW9. Shot one and got a tinge of buyer's remorse over not buying one first myself. It's on my wish list...
 
I'm rarely more than arm's length from one of my K9s. It is my most commonly carried gun. They don't like Speer/CCI ammo. I've had a number of jams in several of them. The CCI guy at the SHOT show said it was because Kahrs have a rather tight chamber and CCI makes thier ammo to the large end of the SAAMI specifications. I carry and use only Federal ammo and have never had a jam or malfunction in 11 years. The trigger could use a better contour, though, it chews up the side of my finger. Maybe rounding it off will help.
 
I got my wife a CW9 for christmas and carry it almost exclusively now. I will have to give it back when she decides to get her CHL, but for now.....

It's great. Light & thin.

I don't care for the trigger much; it has a long pull and the feel of it doesn't change from start of pull until BANG.

Then again, I've been a Glock man for over 10 years. I'm used to the soft pull back to the breaking point. I always know exactly when the Glock will go bang. The Kahr is more unpredictable in that department.
 
Spend the extra money and get yourself a PM9 and a PM45, or just the PM45. I have been carrying one in my front right pocket for the last couple of weeks and honestly, I forget it is there.

dan-0 is right. my pm9 rides in my front pocket, I can carry it 24/7 with ease. May not be called a "mouse" gun, but it sure is a "rat" gun.

the rohrbaugh9 is certainly a mouse gun IMO.

Can't beat those kahrs PM models IMO.
 
I own, carry and shoot a few Glocks but when I need to carry a smaller pistol I carry my CW9 which is reliable,accurate and soft shooting.

never a hic-cup out of my k9 and pm9 using cci ammo, be it brass cased or aluminum. Your kahr shoud shoot um perfect IMO.
 
While I am looking at the CW9 to replace my flat but heavy E9, I recommend you do not trade a gun that you know works for one that you hope works. If you can afford one gun, you can afford two, for a while at least.

I do not want a CW45, but that is for you to decide.
 
Consider P9

I'm replacing my Glock 26 with a Kahr P9. The "P" does cost a little more than the "CW" but for me it's worth it. I believe with the P9 you get a better barrel, better slide stop lever, and most important to me, the ability to add night sights.

Maybe it has changed, but the front sight on a CW is pinned plastic, rather than dovetailed, so nobody is making night sights.

If night sights aren't important, the CW is probably the better bargain, I just wanted to toss that out there so people know. I've heard of people buying CW, and then getting upset when they go to change sights...

I've owned a CW9 for over a year and it's my daily carry weapon. It has operated flawlessly with a variety of factory ammo and reloads and is very comfortable to carry due to it's thinness. Couldn't be happier with its performance and am considering a CW45 as well.

i have a CW9 that has been flawless...but only for a few hundred rounds so far. the DAO trigger is everything the said it was and it is extremely flat. i'm a holster guy, but it is small enough to fit in the pocket of my 5-11 pants

the CW models really are the "best buy" in the Kahr lineup...just be aware of what you are giving up when you go the economy route.

i knew i wasn't getting the polygonal rifling and the extra machining. i wasn't aware of the non-dovetailed front sight...no big, as i'm not planning on changing it...or long reset (irritating, but not a deal breaker)or single mag. my only regret is not knowing about the casted slide before buying. i may have to save up somemore to get a MK or P model
 
Everyone seams to have positive feedback on the Kahrs here. I thought I would throw you my less than positive feedback on Kahr. I recently purchased a CW40 and have had nothing but problems with it. The biggest of the problems was that it would not eject a live round from the chamber. The round would lodge it self in the ejection port. Not a good thing if you ever have a miss-fire. Since the 40 and the 9 are the same size Im sure that the CW9 will not have that problem. Any way customer service is quite good I found out. They paid to have it NDA UPS back to them and they are currently working on it. There are always lemons with any brand but from what I have been reading on these forums, it seams like Kahr has had their share. I am not really a Glock person but as far as reliability I think I would stick with the G26.

The girlfriend has a CW9 and hates it. It doesn't fit her hand and she can't stay on target with it. It has always functioned well, it is small and slim, but the first rule of a carry gun is carry one you have confidence in. I have shot it and while it shoots better for me, the trigger is awful. I don't mind a long trigger pull in a carry gun, but this one is a creeper and it is difficult to tell when it is going off.
I have a number of carry autos, including an M&P 40c, a Sig P239, a Taurus PT140, a P3-AT, and others. The Kahr would be at the bottom of my list.

why would you want to know when it was going to go off?

wouldn't you be rolling through the trigger while watching your sights?

the Kahr's trigger is stroked just like a wheelguns'.
