Kahr CW9 vs. Taurus Millenium Pro 111 (9 mm)

I am looking at getting my first 9mm pistol. It will be used for some concealed carry, but it will also be used for trips to the range. Reliability is of the utmost importance. Concealibility is important, as is price.

Not looking at getting any caliber except 9. Have looked at other sub-compact 9's, but have been turned off by either thickness (glock 26), reliability concerns (Kel-tec P11), or price (Kahr PM9).

Given these considerations, which of the two would you choose and why?

I would go with the taurus pro 111, mine has never malfunctioned and its a breeze to conceale..youll find that its a very reliable piece even after many rounds of ammo going through it..I actually just bought a Taurus Pt145 and love it as well

I'd go with the PT-111, just for the extra rounds. It's about the same size as the CW9 and reliability is just fine for the PT-111.

I switched to the PT-745, which I compared to the CW9 (they are about the same size) But I'd rather carry 7rnds of .45 than 8rnds of 9mm.

From what I can see, the Taurus is chunkier for CCW than a Kahr CW9, at 1.125" versus .9", and heavier unloaded...but it IS significantly cheaper and I like Tauruses.

Wow, everyone voted the PT111 thus far. Add one more. I think that it has the best combination of size, capacity, features and ergonomics on the market.

Nice to see the high praise for the Taurus. I just ordered a brand new one from Buds gun shop for $301 delivered, I chose stainless. They've got one of the new Titanium PT-111's for about $30 more, and plain black for around $250.

Another vote for a Taurus.

I have a Titanium PT111 Pro and PT145SS Pro. Both are great guns. As stated above, they are wider and I do like the Kahr, but picked Taurus over them based on magazine capacity. 12+1 on the PT111. (edit: I should add price too. Both mine were under $400.)

Might be worth saving up for a Kahr P9 or PM9 over the Taurus, but I'd take the PT111 over the CW9 since I've a PT111 and it works well. Got a CW9 for cheap practice as an analog for my P40 and it basically was garbage. Front frame rails warped leaving a 1/8" gap between the slide and the frame in less than 25 rounds -- before getting to this point, it was mis-firing from light primer strikes about every third shot.

Its been at Kahr for month and I've heard nothing back. My P40 has held up pretty well and carries nicely.

Just a few days ago I made this same choice. I went with the Taurus. I have pretty large hands, so the wider grip is a plus for me.

Good point. Even with my medium-to-large sized hand, I can still get a full three-finger grip on the PT111 because of the grip extension. Moreover, the grip really does not feel thick at all. Feels way slimmer than the Glock or XD sub-compact pistols.

Taurus

For about the same amount of money as the Kahr, you could get the PT11 and a 24/7 in 9mm. My son has both. Well, the 111 is his wife's gun but, they are both very reliable weapons. I carry the PT145 Pro and have never had a problem.
Between the 4 of us (wives included) we own some pretty nice guns including Kimbers, Colts, Sig's, Springers, and Tauri. I still think the the current (read PRO) series from Taurus offers one of the best pistol values on the market today.
I hate sounding like a commercial but, we are very satisfied owners.
The taurus service department/customer service is top notch, too.

I have a Taurus PT140 Milennium Pro which I love. Very reliable, accurate and well made. My best friend, a Kimber and Kahr guy, is even impressed with its quality. I love shooting it at the range.

My best friend had a Kahr MK9 and traded it for a PM9. He loved the MK9 and loves the PM9. Both were/are 100% reliable. Good accuracy in such a small gun. Very small. In the polymer series they are very lightweight. I find both enjoyable to shoot.

I definately want a PM9. They are different enough to justify both (obviously I bought the Taurus first).

As for the CW9, I don't know that much about it. It is sized like the larger P9, which is still a good CCW size. It is narrower than the Taurus, but with less capacity. Price is very close. It is hard though for me to say which I'd suggest since I really don't know enough about the CW9. Still, I'd probably get the Taurus (great gun) and wait until I could afford the Kahr PM9 to buy the Kahr.

I own both... I carry both...

Both are great guns... never a FTF or any malfunction of any kind with either one...

CW9 trigger is just a hair smoother, but not much... both shoot well to POA...

PT-111 holds a few more rounds...

CW9 is lighter and thinner...

CW9 is my favorite carry of all (thin, easy to conceal, 8 rounds of 9mm, lightweight) but I still carry the PT-111 from time to time (mostly belt slide holster 4 o'clock).

For me - Weight is a big factor in constant carry... sometimes the few ounces makes a difference...
