Ignoring the fact that they are two different calibers, and are different mechanically, which is the better gun? I can get the MK9 or the P238 Sport for the same price, and I'm only buying for collecting purposes...

I could only find a SIG P238 Sports 12 so I don't know if this is the right gun but it seems to be priced around $499 NIB. A new Kahr MK9 goes for considerably more so I'm not sure if this is an apples-to-apples sort of comparison, at least in terms of price. If I had to say which is the "better" gun for collecting purposes then I would probably go with the Kahr.

The SIG P238 is a 380 pocket gun and a very good one weighing about 15 oz. Dimension wise the Kahr MK9 is about the same size but weighs 24 oz and is more of a belt gun-- IWB. That said , I would not consider either one as collectible at this point in time , unless one is no longer made.

I personally like the Kahr CM9 that cost under $300 on sale. The only caveat is that you have to send the slide to Kahr to install night sights.

I think the Kahr MK9 is the better gun and is chambered in a better caliber. It is great for belt carry. However, it is also larger. The P238 is better at pocket/deep concealment. Therefore, the correct answer is to buy both!

The MK9 is used mint and the Sig Sport is NIB from KyGunCo for $440.

I've had both and don't have the Mk9 anymore. It was just too heavy for the size and I never liked the trigger. The P238 is a great gun for carry but still pleasant to shoot for fun at the range.

If I could get a mint used MK9 for around the same price as the new SIG P238 I would definitely buy it. Don't come across too many MK9s for that kind of money while the P238 can be readily found just about anytime, anywhere.

Have the MK 9. Usually carry IWB, but sometimes in pocket with jeans and a good belt in either case. Great option when conceivability is paramount. Flawless function and handles recoil nicely and is accurate. I like the trigger, at least on mine. That would be my choice, but I have never fired a 238, only held some. I have no desire to get a 238.

Just for collecting, I'd get the SIG 238...then I get the pistols that it evolved from, starting from the Italian pistol through the Colts.

If you intended to use it defensively, the Kahr would be my first choice

What is the purpose or goal of "the collection"? That might influence my answer.
No reason really. I have a thing for small sized all metal pistols , and I want something that, in the future, will still be desirable, will hold or go up in value, and that I can pass on to my children. Plus, I already own their big brothers, the Kahr K9 and the Sig P938 SAS.

If you don't already have a Boberg XR9-S Shorty, that would be the gun I'd get for a collection such as you're describing.

The other guns I'd get for collection purposes would be the Rohrbaugh R9 and R380, and the Seecamps in 380 and 32 ACP.
