I've only had experiences with a Kahr PM9 - let's just say there were some serious issues with that gun hitting over 2 feet from point of aim and a few other things on it out of the factory (not saying all Kahrs are bad at all here).

The PM series lets the slide ride on the polymer frame, ala Ruger series without any inserts from what I can tell. I've seen plenty of frames being chewed up and having shavings and whatnot all over the place in the PM9 series especially.

From what I can see, the P series has two steel inserts in the rear of the frame, but doesn't have any up front. Shouldn't be a big deal. Anybody here have any experiences on a P series of any caliber with a round count of over 300? I've seen plenty of PM series postings here, but about zero on the P series.

I may/may not have the opportunity to purchase a Kahr P45 at a decent price from somebody who's stubborn and won't listen to anybody out there. I told him after a field strip and pictures of all the parts, and assuming the warranty hasn't been registered yet, I might snag it.

not so

you sure didn;'t do your homework. very well. The PM series (none of them ) RIDE ON THE POLYMER FRAME. There are steel inserts in the rear (like glocks) and also two long rail inserts imbedded n the front of the polymer frame that the front of the slide runs on. Your comments about your kahr not working right yadda ydda and then basing that on riding on polymer rails leads me to not believe anything you said in that post. You may have had issues with your kahr but they certainly weren't the results of the slide riding on polymer rails..:barf:

"I've seen plenty of PM frames chewed up" I AIN'T BUYING THAT, MY FRIEND..

*shrugs* from the PM that I've seen in person, there weren't any steel inserts.

The P's that I've seen in person, there were inserts.

Unless the laws of magnetism have been repealed, there are definitely steel rails in the front portion of the PM9 (and P9) frame. ;)

There is of course a portion of the frame rails that are bare polymer, but this does not support the slide. I have seen photos of this portion getting chewed up a bit, although my PM9 has not. This does not matter. It is not a structural part of the frame - in fact you can actually pinch this portion together with your fingers and it will bend a little bit.

I have a friend with a PM9 with ~250 rounds through it, looks like it's in mint condition. Shoots great, real accurate, very nice gun.

I had a P9 for many years. Way over 300 rounds through it. Closer to 2500. It did have steel inserts front and rear. Over all it was a great gun and the only issue I ever had was a weak extractor spring. Basic maintenance issue. The only reason I parted with it was to pick up a CZ P-01. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one. They carry great b/c they are so light. Very accurate as well. Not necessiarily what I wanted to shoot for an extended range session, due to that light weight however.

I have a P9 Covert (PM grip with P slide and barrel). I've only put about 150 rounds through it so far, but with zero malfuctions. The trigger is great, the accuracy is impressive and the recoil is surprisingly soft. I really like the gun a lot and have no complaints so far.

Pure B. S. front rails on every polymer kahr. I have 12,150 flawless rounds through my pm9, one cannot see one sign of any wear anywhere. Rails are perfect and polymer (dust cover guide )rails are also perfect. They serve no function other than guiding the slide on the frame and giving some strengh in the upper part of the grip but serve no function as far as the slide riding on it. I have read in the past of some of the early kahrs having some polymer flashing issues in that area and some complained of slivers coming off that area. This could very well be true, if excess plastic was left on that area, but the slide itself will soon wear down any areas of the plastic that is rubbing against the stainless slide, or one can just sand that polymer area smooth. Seems of late though this excess polymer flashing has been taken care of in house...

Then you weren't looking, or at least you weren't looking in the right place. Kahr has used the same steel rear insert/front rail system in all their polymer pistols, including the PM series, since Day 1.

The P series is about the same as any other Kahr poly guns. Most work OK but a significant number are lemons which is inexcusable for a premium priced handgun that has been in production since 2000. I bought a NIB P9 in mid-2006 and promptly had to send it to back Kahr because it was a serious jam-o-matic. I expect that from a $300 Kel-Tec, not a $600 Kahr. :barf:

You might want to take a look at the Walther PPS instead. It's not quite as compact as a Kahr P series, but it's still plenty small. I have more faith in Walther quality than Kahr quality.

You pays your money, you takes your chances.

i've bought 2 P's, a 9 and a 40. both worked flawlessly and shot pretty darn accurate. i trust my life with one every day. my only gripe is that the mags don't drop free consistently, which i'm ok with for defensive use i guess. but they oughta make em drop free.

I bought a used P9 on Gunbroker.com. I've put about 200 rounds through it without a single failure. It has been really great for a great price.

it is

ur p9 is a great handgun, no ifs ands or butts about it, IMO. the entire kahr line IMO is simply the best ccw line of guns on the market. My PM9 has 12,150 flawless rounds through it, never one malfunction, looks like new, still tight as a drum and extremely accurate..Other good guns out there no doubt but the kahr line has to be in there with the best of them, and for concealment, there is no one with such a quality gun as the kahrs.
