Kahr p380 vs. Sig p238

Forumsufer-i never compared the weight to other pocket 380's. Im used to full sized 1911. So it does feel extremly light to me

I thought like that when I hadn't considered pocket 380's.

Now that I want something that I can carry safely in my gym shorts, I have been trying every pocket 380 I can get my hands on. So far the sig has been noticeably heavier than any other. It all depends on your needs. Normal clothes and I'm fine with anything from a commander or glock 26 to a full size 1911 or glock 34. But throw on the gym shorts and carry in the waistband (don't care for bellybands, smart carry or anything like that)...all of a sudden ounces matter. I'm not accustomed to that.

When i got the gym, i have the p238 in a 5.11 tactical unsershirt. Its mor cormfortable then having iwb holster.

I do circuit training and I'm all over the place. I only carry coming and going. Thanks for the tip, though. I just ordered a belly band I was recommended by an equally picky friend, so we'll see if I like it. I tried an older one and hated it but for $30 it is better than a new gun/caliber I'm not already stocked up for.

Let me know how you make out with the belly band. I like the 5.11 shirt but if im away for a week or soo. She gets pretty dirty quick. Even worse is summer.

According to Bobo's chart, the Kahr is only 1oz heavier fully loaded then the LCP. I doubt you can notice the difference

I am thinking about purchasing a pocket gun for concealed carry. I am torn between the Kahr p380 and the Sig p238. Does anybody have any positive feedback about either weapon?
IMHO they are both well made, reliable pocket pistols and it really comes down to (a) how they each feel in your hand, and (b) whether you prefer the "glock-like" manual of arms for the Kahr, or the "1911-like" manual of arms for the SIG.

Between my wife and I we have had the LCP, the Kahr and the 238. Now in .380's we only havea pair of 238's. Mine is always with me. Always. Front pocket carry. No heavier that the Kahr, just a lot better shooter. The LCP is not even close to either of the other two.

This probably won't help much, but I have a P380 and I like it. It had some teething problems (one fte) with the first box of range ammo, but it works flawlessly now.

After getting rid of my LCP I tried pretty much every pocket pistol out there. I finally settled on a P238 SAS. For me the 238 has one thing the other pocket 380s don’t have, shootability. (Is that a word?)
It’s easy to shoot with either hand or both. I used up a lot of ammunition finding out that I could not make good hits with my little LCP. There was not enough gun for my fat little fingers to hang on to.
Same with the kahr. Good gun, just too small for me.

micro = Kahr P380, Ruger LCP, KelTec P3at
small = Kahr PM9/CM9, Sig 238, Ruger LC9

The 238 is virtually the same size as those two 9mm pistols, fires a weaker, more expensive round and has an exposed hammer.

If that makes you happy buy one.
Those who deride the Kahr, Ruger or KelTecs for reliability should know the Sig238 has been just as awful if not more.;)

I would get the Kahr if you feel more comfortable with a double action only trigger, but when it comes to shoot ability IMO there just nothing out there in a pocket pistol that shoots like the P238.
Try the new Colt Mustang Pocketlite. I've heard of lots of reliability issues with the Sig and Kahr, not so with the new Pocketlite. It also is a pleasure to shoot.

I don't understand people leaving Colt out of these discussions on a good .380.

They only other two mentioned here I've had experience with are the LCP and Kel-Tec, neither were reliable, and they weren't fun to shoot.

I don't know where you get the PM9 and P238 are "virtually the same size"?
I have both and there is a significant difference in size which makes the P238 much easier to pocket carry than the PM9.

Here is my PM9 and P238 side by side and size difference is very clear.

As for reliability issues, that may have been a true for the very early productions, but if you read through the threads with comments from P238 owners you can see that very few people have anything negative to say about their P238s and most love them.

The bugs have been wrung out of the P238. (Not so the 938, alas.) The new Colt Mustang Pocketlite may be a viable alternative, but availability is limited at the moment.

kokapelli ....I don't know where you get the PM9 and P238 are "virtually the same size"?...

LCP
Height 3.6"
Length 5.14"
Width .80"
Weight 9.8oz

Kahr P380
Height 3.9"
Length 4.9"
Width .75"
Weight 11.1oz

Sig 238
Height 3.9"
Length 5.5"
Width 1.0"
Weight 14.08oz

Kahr PM9/CM9
Height 4.2"
Length 5.68"
Width 1.08"
Weight 16.9oz

Like it or not, your 238 is closer in size and weight to a PM9/CW9 than a Ruger LCP or Kahr P380.;)

im a Kahr fan but there have been too many reported problems with their jamomatic .380 lately.
