I was at the gunshow today, and I saw this guy sell a Kahr P9 with a notice advertising it was upgraded. Does anyone know what this is about? I asked the guy, and he said it was done free of charge - firing pin, ejector, etc.

I have a Kahr PM9, and after shooting 300 rounds through it yesterday I had a few problems. A couple of light strikes. Mag fell out during shooting (maybe I pressed the button). But also, the mags don't lock in with a satisfying "click".

Anyone with info on this? Thanks.

Unless it is an "elite" model; which means it has had a factory trigger job or it has factory installed Trijicon night sights, suspect a scam!! Those are the only two "upgrades" that I know of. I'm not sure Kahr even offers them on the "P" series!! They probably do, but I don't know!! ;)

I agree with denfoote, kahr has not had any official upgrades that I have heard about. They will fix your gun if something is wrong with it. The P series comes with the elite trigger. ;) .....tom

I was under the impression that only the pm9 had the elite trigger not the p9. So all p series have the elite trigger?

Maybe he was talking about the trigger pin being pinned in?

There may have been production or design changes that were put into the gun . This is often done on repaired guns by the factory and would be called upgrade.

I think mete is correct also(boy I'm just all agreeable-scary). Alot of times a manufacturer will upgrade something if a gun comes in for one reason or another.
From what I heard all the polymer kahrs came with the elite trigger, I was told this by kahr when I bought my p-9, and it sure feels different than my other kahr guns(mk9, k40, k9)......tom

The early polymer-framed Kahr's had problems with the trigger pin walking out under recoil. The fix was a roll-pin to secure the press-fitted trigger pin. Current production guns come this way from the factory. There have also been reports of insufficient tension on the mag catch. I understand that Kahr can provide a heavier spring to correct this.

Perhaps these are the "upgrades" the seller was referencing.

RE: Mag release

I 2nd the comment by Rosco regarding the "weak" mag release spring. Talk to Kahr and they will send you stiffer mag spring which will fix the problem. I know of several PM9's which had this problem (including mine) and the new mag spring fixed it.

I'm going to order a part for my PM9. Can you recommend anything else I should order that Kahr might have improved since I bought the gun last year NIB.

Which one is the mag spring that needs to be replaced?

I ordered both part numbers 17 (mag release catch) and 18 (mag release spring). I thought the mag release catch looked a little "chewed" but I suspect that was from "ramming" home Pro Mags which the previous owner used. I don't know that for sure, but I will only use Kahr mags, just in case (and you can get Kahr mags (MK620) for around $25.99 from:

Better to be safe than sorry  My PM9 works just great now.

I had some 10 round Pro Mags that fit an earlier model K9 and functioned just fine. I replaced it with a new stainless steel model, and now the mags get jammed in the well. Does anyone know what's up with that??

Good Morning! Thank you for your recent email. The PM9 has had some
changes with the Recoil Spring, Mag Catch, and cut on the Feed Ramp.
You can send your pistol into the factory and they can perform these
upgrades for you. Our shipping address is K.A.I., 130 Goddard Memorial
Drive, Worcester, MA 01603. Please enclose a note stating the problems,
along with a return address and phone number. Please reference
RA# on the note. The pistol must be shipped Overnight and not through
the US Postal Service or any other Ground Service. Please make certain
that the pistol is not loaded and that there is no ammunition in the
box.
The light strikes that you have been getting could be caused by a
damaged striker or spring. The techs will take a look at that also, and
correct it for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us.

Thank You

This is the email I got from them. Apparently, there are some upgrades to be done.

I had the upgrades done

On my P-9 on its' first trip to the shop

2 trips later and I am getting a new weapon

It still malfunctions almost constantly

(Watch for the new weapon on the for sale forum)

I don't think I will ever purchase another Kahr

The slide stop spring in the original P9 wrapped around a molding integral to the frame. This molding didn't have a lot of material and tended not to hold up too well. Kahr "upgraded" this design by removing the molding and using a screw to hold the slide stop spring against the frame.

The tolerance on slide stop position relative to the frame and slide is just too tight on the P9. After two trips to the factory I concluded the polymer frame was just too flimsy to support the tolerances the design requires in this area. Depending on whether the slide stop is held too far in or too far out from the frame, a P9 can fail to lock open on an empty magazine or fail to cycle. I'm a big fan of the steel Kahrs, but that P9 left a sour taste in my mouth.
