On Friday, April 2, Representative Candy Ruff (D-40) will be holding a rally for Kansas Right-to-Carry! The rally will take place on the South steps of the Capitol in Topeka at 12:00pm. Please come out and show your support to allow law-abiding Kansans the right-to-carry a concealed handgun for self defense. For more information please contact Rep. Ruff`s office at (785) 296-7647.

Is anyone going? Does anyone want to meet? Does anyone know of a place we can meet?

I'm not familar with the capital area at all. I'll get there early to find a place to park & wander around.
See you there.

I wanted to go so bad but can't make it, start night shifts on Friday, not enough notice to take off.
Someone get pictures!!

I've posted the rally notice on all the boards in my favorites file, emailed and snail mailed the Governor. Plan on calling the Gov. office about noon tomorrow.
My local reps are on board, not much more I can do there.

I called the Gov's office this morning but the "drone" just shifted me to the constituents line.Made my request to ask the governor to trust us and pass the bill. Both my reps are with us.I plan to be there Friday at the ralley.
Don't know the area AT ALL so hope I don't get lost.Gotta be at work in KCK @ 3 so hope it don't last too long....

If anyone is there, and you see an old man wearing a tie, and a black leather vest with a full size American flag on the back, introduce yourself. I hope we have a big showing.

McCoy? If you want directions, email me where you are coming in from, and on which highway, and I will give you directions, but, the statehouse is at 10th Ave. and Topeka street, in the center of Topeka. Eastbound I70 will want to exit at first street, westbound I70 will exit at 10th or 6th street, kansas turnpike will exit at forbes field/ highway 75 exit, and go north. I hope to meet some of you tomorrow.

If you do not show up you forfeit your right to complain:scrutiny:

Thanks Mr necktie:),I'll be coming west on 70 and the directions you posted will work for me.Will look for you and your vest.I'll just be in workclothes with an NRA hat.Got a beard with lots of grey but that describes a lot of us:).See you there.Rgds,Paul

This Coloradan will be with you in spirit, Kansans. The nation stands with you!

And THIS Coloradan who up until a year and 8 months ago was a life long Kansan will be with you in spirit ... and if it passes (and there's reciprocity with CO) I'll be armed legaly when I visit the 'rents in Wichita :D

Good luck Kansas! (you're really gonna need it)

If you can't make it

Make a phone call
1-877-579-6757. Alternate numbers 785-296-6240 785-296-3232
I made up a bunch of flyers with phone numbers and email addresses, took them to every gun shop in town. Even put one on the bulletin board at WalMart.
Two of the gunshop owners not only agreed to post them, they were going to start faxing copies!

Well, it was good to meet several of you jokers in person. Haven't heard any news about what, if anything, the gov has done today regarding 2798. The paper in the People's Republic of Lawrence is reporting that the veto is a done deal, hope that's another thing they are wrong about.

I'm not real edumacated but I did stay in a Holiday Inn once :D

Concealed Carry Veto Likely

Melissa Brunner

Supporters of a measure to allow carrying of concealed weapons aren't giving up their fight.

About 50 of them gathered on the Statehouse steps over the noon hour Friday. They're urging other supporters to call and write Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, trying to convince her not to pull the trigger on concealed carry.

"The question I have for Gov. Sebelius is why are you afraid? Why do you fear law abiding citizens," said Richard Dyer of Lawrence, a concealed carry supporter.

"I cannot understand why anyone would deny me the right to defend myself," said fellow supporter Carissa McKenzie of Wabaunsee County.

A measure to allow Kansans to carry concealed weapons passed both the House and the Senate. But Gov. Sebelius said Friday it basically has no future in her office.

"While I haven't seen the final bill, unless there's something in it I don't understand, it would be my intent to veto it," Sebelius said.

Sebelius said Kansas law already lets people own and carry weapons, and she doesn't believe concealing weapons on the street would make for any better self-defense.

"I have not seen any evidence that tells me Kansans will be safer with this type of law," she said. "In fact, our crime rates are better than any of the surrounding states with conceal and carry."

But supporters say Kansas needs to fall in line with the rest of the country. It's one of only four states that doesn't allow concealed carry.

"I don't think we should be the last state in the union to have this. I certainly think we should be the next state," said Rep. Candy Ruff, D-Leavenworth, a sponsor of the bill.

"We just want permission," said Jeffrey Locke of Fort Scott, another concealed carry supporter. "We will go through the scrutiny, we'll pay what fees we need to because we are concerned about defending ourselves. It's like insurance - if you have it and you never use it, you're blessed. But you'd better be prepared with insurance if you need it."

The governor's office expects to officially receive the bill next week. Sebelius does have the option of letting if become law without her signature, but she said she will not do that.

Concealed carry did win enough votes in the Senate to override a veto, but it would need to pick up six more votes in the House.

OK people, I guess we have the Governors permission to open carry without fear of harassment!

The rally was a bit disappointing. Only about fifty people there total. It was nice meeting the ones I did. I hope there are more emails to the governor than response to the rally.

Well I have to agree that it was'nt much of a ralley.Sure could have used more of those "supporters".I doubt if the governess was very intimidated.
Maybe next year.....on the up side ,it was great meeting you guys from the High Road.Rgds,Paul

I really don't understand the process I guess. If (when) she vetos it can it be sent back for an override vote or did they have to have the 2/3 majority to start with?

Sisco,as it was explained by the Senator at the ralley when(if) it is vetoed
the house and senate can re-adress it in special session to try to get a veto proof passage.I'm pretty sure that is what she said/meant.The governess seems to believe that A:You folks are not trustworthy and B:You don't need it anyway......

When she vetoes it I think I'll write her and ask for a signed letter stating it's OK with her if I carry openly so I can show the cops when they harass me for it.

That's an idea Sisco.Unlikly, but an idea.:)Anoter direction would be if some rep would sponser the "Kansas Gov't will guarantee your safety at all times "bill and see if the governess will sign THAT!Maybe I'll just start carryin' an axe around .......Rgds,Paul
