Kansas is one of the states that I frequently travel to that does not recognize my Alabama or nonresident Florida license. Kansas will recognize a Florida license for a resident of Florida but will not recognize any nonresident license. While looking through the laws in Kansas it appears this is not state law but rather a decision made by the Attorney General who was given the authority to enter into reciprocity agreements. Please correct me if I am wrong. While I have sent a letter to the Attorney General of Kansas on this subject it would have more weight if he heard from Kansas residents on this matter. I am asking Kansas residents that if you agree would you please wright to the Kansas Attorney General and ask him to change this decision.

I also noticed that the current Attorney General took office the first of this year. Maybe he is more pro 2A than the past Attorney General.

I think you would have better luck in urging the AL AG to set up reciprocity with KS. And yes, the interim AG in KS isnew. The other one got ousted due to a scandal.

Kansas wont honor Alabama's license because we don't require a background check or any training so that option is out for now. I have thought about pushing for Alabama to go to a shall issue system that requires some training and a FBI background check to improve our chances for reciprocity but I have mixed feelings on asking for more licensing requirements just to improve reciprocity.

Kansas does allow open carry but local laws can restrict that; not to mention "concerned" citizens that call 9-1-1.

My brother lives in KS and has a carry permit. He says it is primarily because many States with CCW don't maked their license holders pass a range profiency test while KS does.

It would be interesting to know if there are any statistics that support their presumed contention that states that require range profiency tests for CCW holders are any less prone to violence or off target rounds in instances where a CCW holder has had to fire their weapon. :scrutiny:

That has nothing to do with not accepting nonresident permits. You are required to have some type of training for a Florida license whether you are a resident of Florida or not. My point is Kansas will honor a Florida license for a resident of Florida but will not honor a Florida license for a nonresident of Florida.
