Keeping Extra Pistol Magazines

We usually keep the extra mag from some of the pistols we sell and sell them at retail in a bag. This works out well when we were getting the military CZ75s and we would take out the 15 round magazine and sell it for sixty dollars seperately, sometimes to the buyer of the pistol. It just enables us to make a little extra profit on small margins. We usually keep the extra mags from Wilson pistols, Colt, etc. and haven't had any problems. Well, yesterday a guy comes in and basically calls us crooks because he says his Ruger should have come with two magazines. We said one magazine is the way we sell them and if he wanted the second, it would be forty dollars. He said we were crooks. Do most of you guys feel like the dealer is free to sell the guns as he wants and if a customer doesn't like it, he doesn't have to buy them? I don't think we're crooks.

extra magazines

May not be illegal, but I certainly wouldn't buy anything from you!

If it's a NIB, factory fresh gun, then you should sell it as it comes, with two mags....especially if your price is comparable to the "street" price. However, if you knock it down a bit (not necessarily the same as the price of a NIB mag) then it's not quite as squirreley.

If it's a used gun, then it's hard to say...especially if the price is good. However, if the price could be seen as a bit high, then that's a bit of a shaft.

Now surplus guns...if it's something that normally is being sold in a certain configuration (10rd, 15rd, and gun) then I think you're squeezing the customer for money a bit hard. If typical price for that config is (for example) $350, you're selling them for $330, and the mag for $60...it may seem like a bargain at first, but not when they see they could've gotten a 15rd mag too for only 20 more if they shopped somewhere else.

So, yes, you are free to sell the guns as you want, and yes, the customer can vote with their feet/wallet. Will you lose potential customers because of this? Only time will tell.

OK, I'll assume you're serious, and aren't just a troll . . .

If you went to buy a new car, how would you feel if the dealer removed the spare tire and jack, and offered to sell them to you at a tidy markup?

How about if you went to buy a refrigerator from Sears, and found that all but one shelf had been removed . . . but they would sell you the ones that shipped with the 'fridge, also at a tidy markup?
I don't think we're crooks.
I think you are.

Crooks, that is.

I think you are just back trolling.

If not, why don't you just admit that you get pissed off like everybody else when they encounter unscrupulous practices by some gun vendors?

Heh ... just saw your other thread.

I very rarely dismiss someone as a troll.

But I'll make an exception.

Yes, I love it when gunshops use a gun I specially ordered as a display model before I get it.

And hell yea, what do I need that other mag for? Yea sure, it came with the gun originally, but I'd rather post $60 bail to get it out of jail.

If the Catalog discribes a gun with 2 mags and you pulled one from a gun I had you order for me then you are a Thief. Ditto for doing it from NIB guns you order for sale. Used guns is your call but if you do either of the first 2 things you probably robbed (I'll give you $200 for that piece of Junk and then you put it in the case for $500) the gun from the prior owner. Where are you so I know I don't buy from you.

I think you are a troll also.

If you are for real, Yes I think you are a crook. I would not buy from you and would tell everyone I know about you.

Personally I hope you go out of business, and you will if this is an example of how you conduct business.

Worst of Luck

Troll or not, we don't equate other members with sanitary products. Keep your tempers in check, please...it's not worth getting banned over stuff like this.
