Note to serious people:
We all know how hard it is to keep the living dead from overrunning your home while you are snoring, so I would like to discuss some solutions for automated surveillance.
1) I remember reading about fenced wire with embedded circuits in them that would trip an alarm if cut. This would be useful. Dunno if it exists IRL though...
2) I don't know what these are called in English, "alarm mines"? Anyway, they are tripwire thingies... I would much prefer if they were activated by someone stepping on them. Also, having them give off a silent alarm at the home base would be much more preferable.
3) Mount cheap web-cams in all directions (cover them with something so they don't get spoiled). Here and here are some instructions on how to convert webcams to IR. I just need to figure out a way to connect multiple cams to the same server backend. You can probably find some code to do image-recgnition and such. Oh, and here's how to make an underwater cam.
4) Same as above, but with cheap microphones. Also, get one of those parabolic microphone thingies so you can spy on them.
5) Those motion-sensors everyone's got in front of their homes, you know the ones who turn on a light, couldn't they be modified to give off a silent alarm instead?
6) Let's not forget canine pets. Low-tech but proven through the millenia.
7) Maybe put all kinds of remote-detonated smoke/tear gas/HE charges all over the place. Then don gas mask and IR goggles and seek out the outlaw biker zombies with suppressed sidearm
8) If you need to keep your gate open (it may be necessary to quickly enter compund if chased by outlaw bikers) this would be an ideal place for laser sensors, metal detectors etc.
Got any ideas, folks?
I think I had too much coffee today...
