Is Kel-Tec doing hard chrome upgrades on the new model P3ATs?

Also, how durable is the chrome finish? I'd like to get a P3AT as an all-the-time gun, but none of the local shops have a chromed model.
A guy at a store tried to talk me into a gen. 2 blued p3at, by saying that the chrome could flake off, and could pit anyway. I'm pretty sure he was just trying to sell the gun, but is there any truth to that?

Alas, the $20 hard chrome upgrade is now a thing of the past. One of the best deals there ever was. THis was recently posted on the KT site:

ATTENTION ALL KEL-TEC FIREARMS OWNERS:
As of 2-21-05 Kel-Tec has suspended all finish upgrades for all firearms. If your upgrade request was made before the above date it will be processed. Kel-Tec will still produce firearms in parkerized and hard chrome finish but no more finish upgrades will be performed. (posted 3-17-2005)

Your gun dealer is probably theoretically correct but the chrome finish is quite durable. I don't recall hearing about any problems with the KT chrome and I certainly haven't with mine. He wanted to sell you the blue he had in stock.

I was talking with Accurate Plating (Kel-Tec vendor) the other day. They have made a few samples hard chrome SG P-3ATs but have yet to receive an order from Kel-Tec. Word from Kel-Tec is that it will be some time before they have are caught up enough to pull slides from production lines to ship out for hard chroming. Apparently the Second Generation P-3ATs are in much demand. I grabbed a SG blue/black when I saw it for $229, as it may be some time before prices drop.

As others have said, it looks like the upgrade option is toast.

I have a P11 with the hard chrome finish and I don't see any way that it could flake off. It really seems very durable.

I own a chromed slide P3AT...came from the factory that way, not a "refinish"...

Its a good, durable finish...works great. I don't think it would flake

I don't think this is a 2nd gen model...is there a serial number range that would tell?

Accurate Plating will also do a black chrome job on the Kel-Tecs. They're giving KTOG members a discounted price of $120.00. (See here for details.) It's not cheap, but their quality is supposed to be topnotch. Black chrome combines the durability of hard chrome with the concealability of a blued or parked finish.
