Well, I picked up a Kel-tec P11 a couple of weeks ago and went to the range tonight to put some rounds through it. I cleaned and lubed it earlier to get it ready for the trip. I bought some of the new Winchester SXZ9 ammo that has training rounds designed to feed like the JHPs of the same variety (SXZ9 Personal Protection) but are less expensive than the JHPs. I ran 100 rounds through it and 7 out of 10 mags failed to feed the first round when I released the slide to chamber a round. There was also a 2 or 3 times when a follow-up round failed to fully feed.

I am guessing that it is probably the ammo. Has anyone else used this ammo yet? And, if so, how did it work for you? I am going to try some FMJ in it next time to see if I'm correct.

And, if you own a P11, how many rounds did you run through it before you felt it was reliable enough to carry? I don't mind putting more rounds through it at all but I'm just curious about your experience. Heck, I talked to a guy at the range tonight that said he helped put 800 rounds through a Kahr CW45 to get it reliable.

And, please, don't make this a Kel-tec bashing thread as I am an equal opportunity shooter.:D

P11

Nice gun, just give it some more time. The P11 IMO is the best semi in kt's line, normally they go bang every time. Lube the rails up good and the barrel. they need this for break in . I would get some fmj ammo such as the WWb 100 pak at wal mart. Good ammo and the lowest in price, to break it in. Once it gets reliable, then go to a defense round for reliability. I would also take the magazines apart and check to see if they are indeed put together right. sometimes the springs are put in wrong. One thing I would do with the P11 is to mirror polish the feed ramp and the barrel chamber. It certainly will help feeding of the gun and speed up break in also. If you have a dremel, and some polish compound a 10 minute jub. Otherwise some 600-800 grip paper will do the same thing.

Most of the P11 eat about any grand of ammo to,they are not ammo sensitive. Now just shoot it like u stole it.

My P11 ran 100% from the start, until the ejector broke. KT sent me two new ones. I felt comfortable with it after the first range visit. Keep it lubed up, as the metal slide is soft, and will start forming burrs where it contacts the hammer. Sounds like a mag issue, or not seated all the way in the gun. KT has a great warranty if you need it.:)

I cleaned it, lubed it and greased the slide rails before the range trip, so, I should have been good there. I guess I'll check the mag and see if was put together correctly. I've got two more mags on the way to try, too.

I will say this about the gun - for a gun with a lot more recoil than I was expecting and a really looooooooong trigger pull, it was very accurate for me. I do think I will get the finger grip extension for the magazine to see if that makes it a little easier to handle, though.
