Kel Tec Sub 2000 experience

Relating to my range report thread for the Johnson Creek gun club. Donttellthewife had a Sub 2000 that has kind of turned my thinking around about Kel Tec's. I had NOT been a fan before, but this little carbine was really impressive! I'm seriously thinking about picking one up, but can't seem to get over my nagging leariness about Kel Tec's in general due to an unpleasant experience with one of my brother's early issue Kel Tec's.

Anybody else with experience or feedback on the Sub 2000 9mm?
 
I have one, but have not shot it yet. I have spoken with several people who consider it to be a fine weapon, as long as you don't pull the trigger while it is folded. I could not decide between the Sub or the High Point so I purchased both!!
 
i have a s&w 9mm...it took a couple hundred rounds to break in and the FTE to stop...now it eats every thing in any mag...megar, s&W, and 30 round national...it is fun to shoot, very accurate...the cheap laser works well inside or night...if you would like more details check out KTOG.org...gpr
 
I love mine. Kind of tricky the first time I took it apart to clean but lots of tips etc. on KTOG. I also find it hard to sight well using earmuffs but with plugs it is a hoot.

I also reccomend the tube cover from Blue Force Gear. Money well spent to keep your cheek off the cold metal.

Mine hasnt had any problems functioning and really is fun.
 
Ditto on the BFG tube cover- it helps. The factory light rail is a useful accessory if you have a Streamlight M3 or the like. The 9mm configured for Glock magazines will accept Glock 18 magazines also (30 rounds plus). And opening up the aperture in the rear sight helps make things faster in the sight department- start small with the drill index and work up till it works for you.

Paid $230 NIB from a dealer a couple years ago. I love it but it really is little more than a range/practice gun for CQB.

Paid $220 new, six years ago. It's a lot of fun, haven't had any problems.
 
I paid $275 in a FTF deal. The guy had run one 10 rd. mag
through her and hated the trigger.
Well the trigger did suck,but 500 rds. later,it's a whole
different story. MUCH BETTER now!!!
Mine also came with 3 Glock mags,as well as a Kel-Tec
carry "case"(think laptop bag).
Go get one!!!!

I have really enjoyed mine. It can share mags with my Glock 17 and use the 33 round mag. Lots of fun to shoot. It had a couple of hiccups in the first 100rounds but none since.
 
We have one in 9mm that uses Glock mags. Had a few FTEs but that has lessened over time. Front sight adjustment is strange but you get used to it. Trigger is not great but also improves.

It is quite accurate for practical purposes and obviously very, very compact. Kel-Tec sells a nice little sling setup for it that I like, and Cheaper Than Dirt's soft, large size rectangular pistol case is perfect to keep and carry it in.
 
you deff need some cover for the steel tube, you can also get some rail parts over on ktog., plus a stock extension. i used pipe insulation covering on my steel tube. And yes , it is very hard to get a good cheek/sight weld , and use their sights, it is better off with a red dot up top.
 
I also added some small o-rings to the charging handle which improved that.

I think I am going to have to try to open up the appeture, thanks for the tip.

I use a laptop case too, urban camo.
 
Where are you guys finding your Sub 2000s? I've been searching the local gun stores/gun shows for one and they are nearly impossible to find. The times I do find one, it's not the model I'm looking for (accepts 226 magazines).
 
Ditto on tip for rear sight. I'm glad to hear the trigger improves with use. Found mine at a local dealer right after they came out, not sure how available they are now. Makes a great truck gun!

Yeah, where? I've only seen one or two places in Central FL that have them, and they want in the $300-$400 range for one. I don't recall what Budsgunshop wanted but even with FFL transfer and shipping it would be better than that. I'm reluctant to buy one though until I could actually hold it up and get the feel of it, as well as knowing for sure which kind of mags it would take.

if you are central fla...try b&h gunrack, merrit island....keltec's are made in batches, flooded or empty market, hardly ever in between....gpr
