To all you lucky Kel-tec sub2000 owners:

First off, know that I envy you. Stock sub2ks are illegal here in CA. Recently, however, I saw a thread somewhere that piqued my curiosity.

In order to make a sub2000 CA-legal you would have to:

(a) add at least .5" in overall length (e.g. recoil pad/muzzle brake) so it is > 30"
(b) fix the mag so that it cannot be removed without using a tool
(c) use 10rd mags only
(d) leave the mag fixed at all times unless the pistol grip is first removed

There is an out-of-state place that does CA-legal mods and will ship to CA FFLs.

This brings us to my question: it is feasible and safe to load a sub2k by loading rounds through the ejection port? IIRC, CA-legal fixed mag AKs use this method, but will it work for the sub2k?

No, it isn't really worth the effort by itself. Combine that with an opportunity to stick it to CA's :cuss: gun laws, however....

Hmm. Maybe I'm not being specific enough.

If you take a normal sub2000 with an attached but empty magazine, could you then load rounds into the mag via the ejection port?

Thanks

No, I don't believe the ejection port is large enough unless you used some kind of loading tool to hold the round and insert it into the magazine. Not worth it IMO even for California.

most pistol mags, you cannot load straight from the top, you kinda have to push down and back. Also the ejection port on the sub would make this almost impossible.

Bought one for my wife a few months back. If you are talking about trying to load the mag up while it is permanently affixed to the weapon--it might be possible but a real pain. Very tiny and very strong fingers might get it done, I suppose.

Other than a trip to SFR with the family, haven't been back to CA since 1966 when I got my overseas orders.

You have my profound sympathy for being stuck there.
