Much has been made of which foreign leaders endorse John Kerry for president. Kerry refuses to name them. Another sensitive matter, which has received far too little attention from the major media, is how Kerry has appealed for direct support from the illegal drug lobby.

<snip>

Kerry, by contrast, is supported by billionaire George Soros, who promotes legalization of marijuana, cocaine and other drugs.

<snip>

The Drug Policy Alliance, a Soros-funded group, recently promoted an on-line chat with Ram Dass on the subject of “What would God smoke?†A follower of eastern religious practices, he is well known for his “experimentation†with LSD. He endorsed Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic presidential primaries.

On the pro-dope website, cannabisnews.com, one user expressed the hope that Kerry would win, appoint Kucinich as his “Secretary of Compassion,†and do away with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

<snip>

Charles Hurt of the Washington Times did note in a recent article about Kerry and other candidates admitting marijuana use that the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) had given Kerry “a green thumbs up†for his support of so-called medical marijuana. NORML, whose slogan is “Smokers Vote in 2004,†also praised Kerry for “mild support for decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana for personal use.†Kerry says he tried marijuana only after coming back from Vietnam.

But in comments that delighted the dope lobby, Kerry told Rolling Stone magazine that he has little problem with the so-called responsible use of marijuana, saying, “I’ve met plenty of people in my lifetime who’ve used marijuana and who I would not qualify as serious addicts—who use about the same amount as some people drink beer or wine or have a cocktail. I don’t get too excited by any of that.†The Rolling Stone interviewer, Will Dana, excitedly told CNN that Kerry “doesn’t think marijuana’s that big a deal…â€

Now, if he was also for legalizing all other narcotics, and could be trusted to keep his word, I'd vote for the thing.

:rolleyes: Sure... Kerry's gonna legalize marijuana. I bet.

The Democratic party seems to be courting Libertarians. Dean made a decent push too. Unfortunately, I don't trust'em one little bit. Ideologically, they are all Socialists and have nothing in common with Democrats. Kerry would probably talk about "granting people the right to get high"

If it were someone other than say... Kerry, I might think they were halfway serious, but Kerry has no principles besides: "Get Kerry elected"

Oh, joy! Legalize dope and increase the welfare state to levels unheard of outside of Europe!

Maybe he hopes that the average American will be too stoned to notice that 80% of his wages are going the the Fed.gov.

IIRC George Soros also is a strong anit. I do think Kerry and some others want to win libertarian support but its not going to happen. I would rather have low taxes and guns than pot any day. The problem with pot is buying it supports criminals(at least right now) unless you buy it from your friend that grows it or something. Growing it is fun(plants are cool) and you get a better, cheaper product. Sadly having pot plants and guns in your house is a recipe for disaster and girlfriendizing in jail. Therefor don't grow or smoke with guns around untill growing and smokin are legal or guns are illegal(hope not:uhoh: )

In short: Kerry would stop the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raids on seriously ill medical marijuana patients as president. Kerry has previously said he favors federal legislation to allow people with cancer, AIDS, and other serious illnesses to have medical marijuana, with their doctors' approval.
Who,besides the Busheviks are really in favor of raiding Med Pot patients?

Frankly I don't see anything radical in this statement at all (although I'd rather have federal drug laws repealed and have drugs regulated at the state level.)

Clinton's drug czar and decorated war criminal General Barry R. McCaffrey.

Actually, gutting the drug laws would go a long ways toward getting rid of at least one form of welfare. The millions of bucks to fight the "war on drugs" cashed in on every year by freeloading law enforcement agencies across the country.

Oh, and thanks, idd, you took the words right out of my keyboard.
