kershaw Tanto Blur

Does any body have one? I think its a very good EDC blade...

If you have...

Do you carry it?
Have abused it?
Do you like it?
How much did you pay for it?

Thanks.

I have one. I cut my skin on the thumb stud all the time, and the handle is a little too fat for my taste to pocket carry with the clip. The tanto blade is good for cutting radiator hoses at the junkyard, but that's about it IMO. I prefer the Leek much more. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad knife, but it's styled more for looks than function.

The assisted Blur seems kinda handy for this arthritic gent. I have one cliped in my pocket now.

It hasn't poked anything more threating than a splinter or cut anything more threatning than an envelope.

Kershaw stoped short of knocking it out of the park when they did not make the Blur with screw holes available on the off side for left hand carry/presentation. The addition of those screw holes might have cost them an extra dollar or two. I think it was a decision of false economy not to do so.

The supplied clip is adjustable for either point up or down carry. Its just for right side only.

If you call and talk nice, The Customer Service Lady just might send you, gratis, a hollow barrel tube driver that just happens to have some spare screws and a tip nested in the hollow barrel.

Don't know about odd blade options. 'Tanto' seems to be a marketing sales point rather than practical. The pointy end pokes and the edge cuts.

Thanks to 'master gunner' who suggested the Blur.

I'm carrying that exact knife clipped on my pocket today. Mine is a July 2006 manufacture, so it has a very rough texture to the handle. Recent Blurs I've handled have a smoother texture on the handle, and don't feel nearly as "grippy". I think Kershaw changed the size of the pebbling in the textured section a few years back.

I've abused mine to the point of breaking the torsion bar (which is responsible for the assisted opening), but it was my fault as I was mindlessly pushing the blade in and out at the half-open point (when the tension in the bar is highest). Plus, I had snapped the blade open about 500 times before that.

I took the knife (in about 20 pieces) in a tupperwear container down the street to the Kershaw factory. They took the pile of parts from me and came out to the lobby about 15 minutes later with my repaired, reassembled, and sharpened Blur. Great customer service!

I bought mine at Kershaw's annual factory sale, so I only paid about $20. But I believe it's worth what you'd normally pay online or in a store.

I usually carry a Benchmade Mini Griptilian, but if I want a knife to abuse and not worry about, the Blur comes with me.

I HAD many Tantos for EDC. No more. They (IMHO) are harder to sharpen, and not nearly as useful as a clip or warncliff blade. The Tanto was solely designed as a penetrator which they are stellar at, but they are not practical for mush else. I have gone solely to other blade designs for EDC such as mentioned. In fact, just yesterday I bought a SOG Trident for about what the Blur costs, and I LOVE it.

I have one. It is for all intents and purposes a legal switchblade. As Sniper X pointed out, it is designed as a penitrator which is exactly what you want in a small fighting knife as a 3 inch blade lacks enough mass and inertia to slash very well.

While I don't have that exact knife I do have other Kershaw blades and other tanto knives. As other have stated you really can't go wrong with a Kershaw. However unless you will be carrying a second knife with a more traditional (clip, drop, sheepsfoot/wharncliff) for utility tasks I would hesitate buying the tanto. It's an excellent option if it is intended as a purely defensive knife.
