Kick eez

I don't have any experiance with the Kick-eez pads, but it looks like you might want the all purpose 300 series or for quick mounts the sporting clay version with the tapered top, the 200 series. I personaly use pachmayr decelerator pads on my guns, particularly the sporting clays model, but I just hunt or shoot clay games with my guns.

http://www.lebaron.ca This has some Pachmayr products.

Remember when you add a recoil pad it adds length to the gun, or you gotta cut the stock, unless you're replacing one. I like the added length because of my size.

I highly recommend the Kick-Eez pads. I tried one, with some misgivings, because I was very happy with Pachmayr Decelerators, and didn't think anything else would be as good. To my astonishment, the Kick-Eez unit actually reduced felt recoil by about a third compared to the Pachmayr. I'm a believer now, and am slowly retrofitting all of my shotguns (and several of my rifles) with Kick-Eez pads.

There are two potential drawbacks you need to watch for:

1. The pad, as it comes from Kick-Eez, is rather "sticky", and can cling to clothing during a rapid mounting routine. The cure is easy: Kick-Eez sells a product called "Slick-Eez" that makes the sorbothane smooth and slick - see here for details. It works.

2. The pad is rather soft, and can be gashed and cut by sharp objects if you're careless enough to ground your gun on broken glass, or put it near a sharp knife. This isn't a problem if you treat your gun with normal care.

They are very good pads. They have lots of different models and sizes.

For your use, just avoid the models that have a curved face. Those are for a calculated, slow premount- trap for example.

As mentioned, use the slick-eez or you can use electrical or hockey tape to wrap the recoil pads.

I do not like the Kick-Eez brand pads for the reasons that Preacherman noted. They are sticky and grab everything. They are also not real easy to fit and make look good. I tried them after reading good reviews but have since gone back to what works for me which is the Pachmayr Decelerators. These pads are easy to fit and work great. During my test with the Kink-Eez, I did not notice any reduced felt-recoil over my Decelerators at all. It is doubtful that I will stray again from what I know works and works well, at least for me.

Try the Limbsaver pad. When more people try them they will dominate the market.......

I had an adjustable buttplate put on my trap gun. It came with a Kick-Eez. The fool thing has no cushioning at all, painting the walnut butt with latex would have been as soft. I would replace it if I shot anything heavier than light target loads in that gun.

The Limbsaver is softer under recoil and not quite as tacky on the shoulder as the Kick-Eez. BOTH need siliconed for a defensive gun, they are just too sticky. I silicone the pads on hunting guns as well. The special stuff Kick-Eez sells works VERY well for taking the sticky off the pad, but it is a regular maintenance item to keep the stickies at bay regardless of what you use.

The limbsaver pad takes ALL of the sting out period, you can still get thumped by heavy loads but the gun will not "smack" your shoulder or sting. The Kick-Eez is much the same up to a point, where it feels like any other pad when recoil becomes heavier than it can absorb. I have shot some boomer loads and not found the point where the Limbsaver pad is overcome.........

pdmoderator,

All my recoil pad experience is on my 870's. The 1100's here do not wear any recoil pads at all.

Speedfeed Stock

I'm having trouble getting a bolt-on replacement for a speedfeed synthetic stock in just about any recoil-absorbing pad (that's not as sticky as the honey-like pad on the speedfeed).

Anybody with any experience fitting a kick-eze or limbsaver to a speedfeed? Other ideas?

Thanks,

Rat-30, you might want to check out the Limbsaver slip-on pads - see here for details. While you're there, go to their home page and check out their other models. They don't list anything for Speedfeed stocks, but if you measure the recoil pad, perhaps one of their other models (particularly the "grind-to-fit" units) might be usable.

As for the Kick-Eez models, the same applies - find one that is close to what you want, and then grind to fit.

Hsmith, I agree that the Limbsaver does a good job: but for me, it has the MAJOR complication that those air chambers keep the shotgun "bouncing" instead of letting me get right back on target for a second shot. I notice that Kick-Eez has recently updated their comparison page to reflect tests of their product against Limbsaver, Pachmayr, etc., and still make the claim that their product is superior in kinetic energy absorbtion. I see where they're coming from on this one: their pad DOES seem to "come to rest" after recoil significantly faster than the Limbsaver, allowing one a faster second shot. However, the Limbsaver's "springy bounce" also makes felt recoil seem a bit softer... You pays your money and you takes your choice, I guess! :D

I tested an early-production Limbsaver, and wasn't too impressed by the "Sproinnngg!" effect. However, I'm informed that their current production models are significantly improved. I guess I'm going to have to buy a current-production Limbsaver, and a current-production Kick-Eez, and fit both to identical 870's and shoot them, to see which one "feels" better from my (admittedly subjective) point of view. I'll post results here, and we'll see how they do.
