I've searched extensively, and haven't found an answer to this problem:
My Custom II (external extractor) is about to go over the berm, due to the FTE problems I continue to have. I shoot every weekend in a local pistol league, and usually shoot at least one IPSC match every month, and I've got better than two thousand rounds through this thing in about 6 months (figure it's broke in yet? ).
It will shoot fine (better than fine; if it wasn't so accurate, I'd have ditched it a while back) for up to 100 rounds sometimes, but sometimes it won't go two mags without failing to extract the case and locking up three times. I have to haul back on the slide just to drop the mag, and then eject the case. It locks up SOLID. I've actually noticed a tendency for it lock up more often right out of the gate, when it's just been cleaned, than when I've dirtied it up on a couple stages.
I'm certain it's not a mag issue, as I've kept track of which mags were being used when it locked up, and out of seven mags, every one of them has locked it up at least once, but none have locked it up consistently. It may be ammo, as I shoot my reloads pretty much exclusively, but that doesn't follow as it will go a while without issue and then just decide to lock up, and I load all my .45 with the same charge, bullet, OAL, and crimp, since the load I run is accurate in all three 1911s I shoot.
I'm ready to send it back to Kimber, but I don't want to be without it for six weeks and have them send it back with "Could not replicate problem" on the tag if there's some way to fix this myself. Is there any way to cure it, o masters of the 1911?
Thanks,
Farnham
