I'm not a fan of the factory plastic mainspring housing regardless of whether it functions fine or not. I just don't want plastic in a 1911 style pistol. So, I replaced it with an Ed Brown mainspring housing from Brownells. Blued, gov't model, 25lpi. It looks good and is a true drop in fit. However, the base of it has a slight bevel that doesn't mate perfectly with the bottom of the grip (the corner where the mainspring housing retaining pin goes. That part of the gun has a sharp angle and isn't flush with the beveled mainspring housing. It's not very noticeable. You'd notice it if it was pointed out to you or if you were looking at it closely as if before buying a pistol. Except for that, the replacement part looks nice and matches the finish very well.

Have any of you bought a replacement mainspring housing that does line up with the angle of the rearward base of the grip? Suggestions? Thanks

if i remember correctly

the Ed Brown MSH is a two piece affair. you might try a one piece mainspring housing with magwell or go back to EB for his 2-piece unit. i replace all my factory parts with one that has a combined magwell. you will need bumpers on your mags but i think al your problems will be solved this way. i know, it costs money but if it makes you a better shooter with faster mag changes it will be well worth it.

I replaced the plastic Kimber MSH with the 25 lpi Ed Brown too. Those rear corners were really sharp on my gun. I blended the frame corners and MSH, then re-glass beaded the frame and MSH. I've seen mention that Kimber has a metal MSH that fits their gun without the sharp edges protruding, but have never tried one.

Nice job! I'll look into Kimber's steel MSH. Mine is blued and I lack those kind of finishing skill honestly, so I'm looking for something strictly drop-in ready. But you did a great job there.
