Hi gang.

Got bit by that darned 1911 bug.

Thinking of adding a Kimber to my collection after I get my Colt 1911.

Saw the Custom II in the case at my local range, fondled it, and fell in love with the all-black look, even though I'm a mil-spec kinda 1911 guy. I figure that variety is the spice of life and that guns don't get jealous if you play with other guns. :p

Please post your opinions of and experiences with the Kimber Custom II.

Thanks!

I bought one a year and half ago. $629 NIB. Great gun, although I had some problems with using Wilson magazines early on. For some reason it didn't like them. I use McCormick mags now and it runs great. Besides changing the grips out, I haven't modified it at all and the MIM parts have held up very well so far. I'm pretty happy with it.

My Custom Classic II in stainless is my daily carry gun. 1000s of rounds through it with no failures once I got rid of the factory mags and switched to Wilson 47Ds. Highly recommended.

I have a Kimber Custom Target II.
I bought it in February of 2002 when the Series II was introduced. So far I've had ZERO failures. After almost 3000 rounds I think its time for a new recoil spring but that is typical of 1911's.
I've had no problems with MIM parts or the Series II safety. Price on the Target model was $719.
If I had to do it all over again I'd have saved about $70 and got the standard Custom Classic with the fixed sights. The target sights have been perfect and have needed no adjustment. I'm sure the fixed sights would have been good enough for someone that is not a competitive shooter.
My Kimber is not a carry gun. Its mainly a HD and fun/target gun. It stays within reach or the bed. I didn't keep it in the original foam lined box and it has started to show a little wear on the finish at the muzzle. Looks a little like holster wear.
Get one. You'll love it.;)

Question:

What sort of finish does that thing have?

I'm 99% sure it is true black, not blued, correct?

Thanks

I've had a Custom II for about 8 months now, and couldn't be happier with it. I have 2500 rounds through it and no problems so far. It has fed everything except Speer Lawman target ammo.

I think you will be pleased with the Kimber if you get it.

The finish is a true black...black oxide...kind of like parkerizing...supposedly, not the heartiest finsih around but I wanted black and down the road will refinish mine in a Black T type finish.....

I had a Custom II up until about an hour ago. Traded it for an Eclipse.
Great gun. Wanted the Eclipse to start with but didn't have the $$$ at the time.

I have a custom II I bought used for about $550 with night sites and I couldnt be happier with it. Very accurate, never had a problem with Lawmen, Winchester, or Fiocchi ammo. Blazer does not run well gave it all away. I do plan to get mine refinished at a later date. I would not hesitate to buy another Kimber. But my next 1911 is going to be a Dan Wesson.

If I had looked at DW's guns before I bought my Stainless Pro Carry II, I never would've bought the Kimber. My DW PM7-S is nicer in every way than my Kimber, and was about $150 cheaper.

Yes the Dan Wesson has a nicer fit and finish. But if you come by a good deal on a Kimber its hard to pass it up. My custom II was 99% not even broke in yet, with night sites couldnt pass it by. But the Dan Wesson is the most bang for the buck.

Mine was a very accurate, very unreliable jammomatic. I could not stand it. I switched out the mags with wilsons, etc. I traded it in.

I don't own one but my best friend got a Kimber Custom Target II in stainless about 2 years ago or so (just after all that was on the market anymore was the Series II, but not that long after introduction). Since it isn't mine I can't say with certainty how many failures its had and how much ammo has been through it, but he has reported to me all failures were with the factory mags (none with the Wilsons he bought), there have been very few (I don't know exactly what that means) even with the Kimber factory mags, and I know he used to shoot it a lot. Lately (the past 6 months or so), he hasn't had much time for shooting, but there was a time he'd take it out for 100-200 rounds per range visit, 2-4 times a week.

I know he is quite impressed.

Shooting it and seeing my accuracy with it, so am I. I've probably shot 500 rounds out of it, and it never gave me any failures when I was using it.

Now that Kimbers are again available in MD (MD has approved some odd external lock as meeting the internal lock requirements, so previously unavailable autos are now MD legal again with the purchase of a $15-25 lock) I may get a Kimber instead of a Springfield Armory as my next 1911. Back when Kimbers were still legal in MD (before the built-in lock law) I decided upon SA, but with my experiece with my buddy's Kimber I may go Kimber instead.

I bought a Kimber Custom II TLE-RL. It has an external extractor and is 100% reliable. It is the first 1911 style gun that I could trust my life to.

I own one in 10mm and have more than 8,000rds. of DoubleTap through it with no problems. And it is very accurate!
