Can someone tell me if $699 is a good price on a Kimber Classic Custom Target in Like New condition? It's not a Custom II... it truly is a Series I Kimber in LN condition I saw at a shop the other day. It's blued (not high gloss, but the matte blue used on many Kimbers).

I'm looking for a good, reliable, and accurate adjustable sighted 1911, and this seemed like a decent deal, but want some opinions on this from those of you more experienced with the Kimber Classics and other 1911s.

Thanks!

I'd sure be checking it out if I was in the market for another 1911. The price sounds right to me, as I have bought several 1911's in my life. If it is in good shape, buy it. You can always get your money out of it later if you don't like it. But I can't imagine that.

Thanks.

I know a lot of people dislike the newer production Kimbers because of the Schwartz safety system. However, besides that, is there really any difference between an older Classic Custom and a new production Custom II?

As you stated, other than that unfortunate Swartz safety thing, new Kimbers are a good guns. That's why I have 3, and carry one daily. But that's just me. Others may have different opinions.

The Series I have been a lot kinder to me than the Series II. That's why my carry Kimber is without the Schwartz system. $700 is an ok deal if it really is like new.

In terms of quality, would you put a Series I Kimber ahead of a current production SW1911 or Springfield Loaded? Just wondering, as those were some other models I have been considering.

Kimbers have the tightest fit of the lot from my experience and have the edge in accuracy. Some have been so tight that they needed to run with quite a bit of lube during break in to be reliable. I have a Series II Eclipse that is still my second best shooter, even after 15,000 rounds. The slide cycles like glass now.

I like the Springfield too. The Loaded model is a very solid pistol with all the usual upgrades. Not quite as accurate on average as the Kimber, but no slouch and most people will never outshoot either of those guns. As for the SW1911 I can't seem to trust the external extractor deisgn. I've seen a lot of trouble with those (mostly with the Kimbers) and feel it's a solution in search of a problem. If you want a spring loaded extractor, just go AFTEC.

The Series I Classic Custom Target (with black "plastic" trigger) is mine! I gave $542 (including taxes and NIC call) + an older Llama .45 for it, and felt I got a pretty good deal. The gun seems nice and tight, no wear at all on the finish, and judging by the rails and the feed ramp it doesn't look like it probably has more than a couple boxes of cartridges through it. It also comes with original factory box, magazine, and papers.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I will post pictures of it once the 72 hr. waiting period is over.

Can't wait to get it out and see what it can do. I'm hoping this is the auto that matches my 686 in terms of accuracy (offhand, of course).

It'll be awhile, unfortunately.

For one, I live in IL, and there is a mandatory 72 hour waiting period to take possession of handguns. And yes, that's still in effect even though I traded in one handgun as part of the deal.

For two, I live in IL (I already stated that... I know), and it's friggin' cold here right now. My "range" is my farm, and shooting in 5 inches of snow with 20 mph winds at 10 degrees is no fun.

For three, work obligations have me traveling off and on, so "free time" isn't always free.

Oh well... gotta pay the bills, and can't fight mother nature, eh?

I got my Custom Target II for $720 new. It hasn't failed in any way yet.

If it is like new, since it is a series I, I would say that's a good price.

Thanks for the recommendations and insight, all. Here's pics of the Kimber Classic Custom Target!
