Kimber question

The Schwartz safety. The Pre-Series II Kimbers were designed much like the original colt. No additional safeties.

The Series II Kimbers have a firing pin block safety (Schwartz). Basically, Inside the slide, there is a block with a hole cut in it. When at rest, the block is forced downward via a spring against a shoulder that has been cut into the firing pin. This eliminates the chance for the firing pin to move. When you squeeze the grip safety, the firing pin block lifter rides up and pushes against the bottom of the firing pin block. (This firing pin block lifter is held in place by the sear pin and sits to the right of the Disconnector/Sear assembly when viewing the firearm from the rear.) This lifts the firing pin block up and clears the shoulder on the firing pin allowing it to move forward when struck by the hammer. The system is completely controlled by the grip safety so the trigger pull is not affected like on the series 80 colts.

Some people hate it, some people don't mind it. Put me in the "don't mind" catagory. It has never caused a problem for me so I could care less.
