Eh. It looks ok, except for that big honkin' beavertail. And what's with that odd looking hammer? Besides, it's $1108.00 :what: How many MIM parts do you get wit dat?

Not for me, thanks. :)

Wow, I like that, kinda like an affordable EB Kobra :) . Except, it's a MIMber, but maybe I can forget about that and learn to enjoy it

SpaceCowboy,

MIM is Metal Injection Molding. This process of producing small parts is analagous to solid wood compared to particle board. Instead of machining small parts from solid pieces of steel, Kimber finds they can save a few bucks by mixing metal fragments and an adhesive compund under pressure to form what looks like a solid metal part, but it's actually "soft" inside because of the method of construction. Colt, Kimber, and SA all use some MIM parts, but Kimber uses more than the others. The MIM parts aren't as durable as machined parts, especially slide stops, sears, and safeties which are all key components and may need to take some abuse.

I love many of Kimbers designs and their guns feel nice and have great trigger pulls, but until they eliminate the MIM components I won't buy one. I think the older Series 1 pistols are made with more attention to quality....but I'm no expert on Kimbers.

It looks nice, but I guess I would have to see one in person to form a real opinion.

About the ugliest grips I've ever seen on a pistol! What's with the "scales" on top of the slide? Trying to set a record for the most usless doodads on a gun? Why not just engrave the silly thing if you want gaudy and pretend its art.

Wow, a lot of naysayers here. Maybe it is just the 'MIMber' bigots that have been exposed. Or maybe it is just that the gun is UGLY. I should look at it again.

Wait one...

OK, I'm back.

Nice piece!!! I want one!!!

Looks like an Ed Brown Kobra Carry knock-off!

MIM- Maybe It's Metal :D

I smell imminent failure of the slide stop in my Kimber Gold Match Stainless. I have never seen a slide stop with the wear pattern this one has. The stop just seems to be soft and the barrel is rubbing flat spots into it!

Kinda different. Perhaps a bit nicer than some others but just because of the commonality and mundaneness of most other 1911's. I'm not into spending an over-neccessary amount on a few visual changes. Doubtful there's a lot more expense to this compared to thier other models. to each his own though. Besides in America, what it appears yopu have is more important than what you actually DO have. :neener:

Kimber CDP Pro

OK, my Kimber is just under two years old and during that time I've put around 2,000 rounds through it. Most of it was Wolf's "burning tires" ammo, but 100 rounds were 230 HPs +P, and maybe another 500 rounds were 185 HPs (what I carry now).

So far my only problems have come from aftermarket magazines. Out of four Metalforms, only one will hold the slide open when empty, and that is the only one which has proven itself 100% reliable. Next time I'll try Wolfe Spring's own magazines.

Anyhow, to date the pistol hasn't shown any appreciable sign of wear. How many more rounds do I have before I have to worry about part breakage?

I'm going on 10k through my Kimber Team Match II and don't see any of the things mentioned above. I shoot about 300 rnds a week through my K-TMII, about the same through my Sig P220ST and ditto my Sig P226ST (yes, I do a LOT of shooting each week). I see wear patterns, but not wear-through patterns or flat-spots or anything of the sort.

I'll keep you posted.
