I'm looking at a kimber solo and have read a lot of tests and reviews. It seems
that people either love it or hate it. Have they fixed the failure to load and
failure to eject? I like the size, style, and double action as I want it as a pocket
pistol. Any advice will be welcomed. I have looked at others but the single actions
scare me in a pocket pistol.

Thanks

I had one and sold it off to a member here. The one I had didn't like the 115 gr of anything. It says use 124 grain and when I did it was fine. Was supposed to be the wifes gun but she didn't really care much for it.

I generally try not to knock guns and I have a Kimber Ultra Carry CDPII that runs like a champ.

That said,

I am an instructor and RSO at a public indoor range. I have experienced a general overall dissatisfaction with the Solo's that our customers bring in. It appears to be a gun that requires you to find the specific brand ammo to run in your own particular gun. It even seems to vary depending on the gun.
I will only own firearms that will shoot literally anything I can find to run down the barrel.

I would say there are a lot of other .380 options to choose from that are not nearly as finicky.

I've owned several Solo's. The first ones I owned had failure to eject issues. I believe Kimber since solved the issues. I currently have a Solo DC and a Solo CDP. Both of them shoot flawlessly. At the range for practice I am shooting Winchester 115 grain target loads with no issues.

The Solo is a great shooting compact 9mm pistol (not a .380).

My wife's CDP shoots everything we put through it. 115, 124, 135 or 147 grain. FMJ OR JHP. It is not picky about ammo brands either.

I've shot a handful of similar sized 9mm pistols and NONE shoot as sweet as that Solo. If I had the cash, we would own 2 of them. Did I mention it is a sweet shooter?

Kimber recommends using either 124 grain or 147 grain premium ammo. The Solo performs fine if you use the recommended ammo. I have shot a variety of premium ammo, Winchester, Golen Saber, Hornady Critical Defense, Corbon, etc., and my Solo functions flawlessly with all such ammo.

Correct, Dog, they do "recomend" heavier, premium ammo.
But, don't be hesitant about putting the cheap 115 grain FMJ through your Solo. It'll save you some coin at the range, and give you a new respect for your pistol.

Mine has been nothing but dead nuts reliable using 124gr lead reloads that are very mild. Classy like pistol. Mine is a keeper! I haven't found anything of comparable size and caliber that I like more than the Solo.
