It's possible that this might belong in the "Gunsmithing" area, although until I try a few more things I figured I would consult the general public of the Revolver section first.

I recently acquired a Colt King Cobra in good shooter condition, however I have discovered that when stroking the trigger in double action, occasionally the trigger is "sticking" back and not properly resetting. All it generally takes is a light push forward on the trigger to get it to return, but I am trying to determine the cause of this issue. I am very hesitant to dig into the internals of a Colt Double-Action since I have very little familiarity with their inner workings, so I am unable to see exactly what is going on when this problem occurs. Is it possible that there is some sort of gunk or accumulation inside the action of the revolver? Perhaps an ill-advised application of "lubricant" by a previous owner?

I ask because in addition to the trigger return issue, the entire action seems to be a bit "gummy" or not as smooth as I would expect. I also have an Anaconda which I understand to use a very similar action (albeit on a larger frame) and it seems to function noticeably smoother in double action than this King Cobra. Is there some sort of solvent or cleaner that would safe to spray up into the action to see if it cleans anything out that could be causing these issues? Or would that be inadvisable? Should I instead just try and locate a gunsmith that is comfortable with diving into the internals to better investigate the problem?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I would take the grips off and hose it out real good with WD-40 or Gun Scrubber while working the action.

Then, blow the WD-40 out with an air compressor and re-lube with Rem-Oil or other spray lube.
