I am very interested in getting into knife making but am not sure where to start. I would love to have a mentor or do an apprenticeship. My schedule is extremely flexible and I would be able to spend a week or two with a skilled knife maker...

Anyone have advice or referrals?

Thank you in advance!

Have you googled for blacksmith/bladesmith forums?
I've also developed an interest in this recently, and have found those to be the best places to start.

Experienced knifemakers on here may have other information, of course.

There are plenty of knifemakers in WA and OR and some of them are happy to have eager new students of the craft.

Look at the Knifemaker's Guild or the American Bladesmith Society website for makers close to you and start asking. Check out http://www.nwkc.org/ in WA also. Another thing to do is attend the big knife shows in OR and WA and talking to the makers.

Or you can try the self-taught approach of using DVDs and videos and books and websites to teach yourself.
