My dad is giving me a Alfonso of Hollywood convertible double buscadero holster rig he bought back in 1960 or thereabouts. He used to do trick shooting in the circus and its seen quite of quick draw service. Anyhoo its got oh, about a .45 caliber hole in the side of the right holster and some dumb kid cut the belt buckle off. The belt buckle is no big deal. That can get re sewn with a new punched belt section since it needs to get let out anyway. The holster section I'm kind of torn between leaving it as is for a little extra character or hammering a few mexican silver pieces over the arch as conchos or just having it repaired. I'd send it back to Alfonsos but I'm not really sure if they are still in business or not. Anyone know a good holster repair shop that could give me some guidance and maybe do the work whatever it needs?

If my dad left me an Alfonso fast draw rig he had personally shot a dent in the steel liner his self??

NO WAY I would try to repair it, or cover it with Conchos!!

It is all original now, or at least it was, before 'somebody cut the buckle off.

Leave it be, and enjoy a priceless piece of holster history.

Goodness gracious, of course Alfonsos of Hollywood is still in business. Just this past February I visited with his son Omar at his shop. His site:

And by all means tell him I sent you along to him. Nice chap who was there with his Dad since a child in day one, and can tell you plenty of stories about Arvo and Andy, too :)

Ha ha. Its not a dent. Its a big freakin' hole right through the side. I suppose your'e right. It does add "Character". Pretty nice rig. I'll get a pic up once I get the punch belt adjusted and a buckle on it. I know he paid $200 for it new which is the equivalent to what , about $2k now. That bullet going through the side had to hurt his wallet as much as his pride.

I had an interesting conversation with Alfonsos son today along the lines of "My dad bought a holster from your dad and.."

In short they still make the same A3 Bob James set although they are somewhat rare in a double holster rig. He can make me a new right side holster. He said it was somewhat common for guys to shoot through the side before they banned live ammo in quick draw competitions in '65 "for some reason" . I picked up a really nice full sterling silver Morgan dollar buckle that should complement the rig. I'm excited enough to buy another SAA to fill the other side.
