Got my Copstock this last week from Cabelas for $95 shipped to me. At first glance is much larger than the stock pistol grip on my Mossberg 500. It protrudes out on both sides. It doesn't look bad, it's just not a sleek as the factory pistol grip. So I finally got out and shot it yesterday. WOW. I was impressed. There is VERY little recoil in the PGO position! I used to go through 10rds of Winchester Universal bird shot (2-3/4", 1-1/8oz, 8shot) with the factory PG and stop because my hand would hurt. Then it would be sore for days after. Not with this thing. I went through 2-1/2 boxs of shells w/o any pain in the hand. I coulda shot more but I ran out of ammo. This stock makes the gun really fun to shoot. With the folder in the down postion it doesn't reduce the recoil much, if at all. It also seems to have a longer LOP than the factory stock. Which I didn't like at all. I didn't ever want to try buck shot with the gun, but now I think I'll try it. Maybe a slug or two as well. :)

Overall I'm really happy with this purchase. It makes my Mossy fun to shoot. I reccomend it to anybody who likes to shoot PGO shotguns. I could only imagine with COMPstock from Knoxx would be just as good.

Thanks for the review. The recoil at your shoulder is still less than the factory stock but because it is concentrated over a smaller area (the wireframe) it seems heavier. We will be introducing a slip-on rubber butt pad.for the stock in a couple of months. A tip to try is to not pull the stock too tightly to your shoulder and take a firmer grip on the pistol grip. You know that the pistol grip works so trust it to take up the recoil.

The COPstock has a LOP of 13.5 inches and the factory stock is usually 13.75 to 14.25 inches.

Makes sense. A butt pad would be great, but would you lose it's folding function with it on?

Yeah, I thought I remember seeing someplace the LOP was less. I don't have the longest arms in the world so any pump action is kinda long for me. :( Stupid genetics. :p

Other than those two small details the stock is awesome.

I'm confused about how this works.
When you fire the shotgun and the recoil systems does its thing, does the whole receiver slide back? And if it does, what happens to you finger in the trigger guard? Do you have to remove your finger from inside the trigger?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question... I just can't picture the mechanics

When the shot is fired the gun moves backwards on the stock. The stock is flush with the trigger group, as it is shot the trigger group moves back into a recessed part of the stock. It doesn't go far enough back to pinch anything. It's all contained in the stock. It's very trick!

Maybe I'll take some pics tomorrow to show how it works.

Did they ever fix the thumb-bite problem on the earlier models? My friend bought one last year and it tore the heck out of my knuckle.

The rubber pad will just slip on over the bottom of the wire frame and still allow you to fold the stock and see the front bead or sight. It really doesn't take much to make a dramatic change in the felt recoil on this stock. The discomfort you feel is from the bottom part, or toe, of the stock where all of the pressure is directed. The pad spreads it out over a larger area. It's next on the list so it shouldn't be long.

I too got a copstock from Cabellas and find that the recoil is not at all noticeable with just shooting the pistol grip by itself. I find there is a bit of felt recoil with the wire stock, but I was not bothered at all. I was testing it side by side with my Winchester factory stock which I thought reduced recoil really well. I was suprised how accurate the shotgun was with wolf slugs, targets up to 25 yards were dead on.

Also heed the warning on the stock about giving at least 2 inch for the stock, my chin found out the hard way. :D

Edited: for 2ft to 2in typo

2 Inches...2 inches

Also heed the warning on the stock about giving at least 2 feet for the stock, my chin found out the hard way.

The safety warning is to maintain a distance of at least a 2 inches between your face and the rear portion of the slide, as it comes back 1.2 inches during recoil.

Glad you are enjoying the stock.

Went and shot it again. I really like it. Even shot some clay pigeons w/the stock in the down position. And did quite well. We played around and tried to get them w/the pistol grip only... LMAO, it was funny to watch.

This product is awesome.

got a rough idea on when the specops for the 870 will ship?

thanks.
