knuckledusters, the force multiplier. they allow grannies to throw a punch that can mess an attacker up. i have started making/collecting them a while ago and now i have about 80 of them. mostly aluminum, some are wood and even see through clear acrylic (legal in Cali believe it or not) and i just love them! i am not a violent person, however some people like to collect stamps, some people like to collect model trains, i like to collect dusters. haha! i have some on my youtube channel if anybody is interested in seeing my work. i used to make them out of 1/4 inch thick aluminum, but now i make them occasionally and out of 10 mm thick aluminum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FLOSLDsFq4&feature=channel_video_title here is an example of some cool dusters. i make one fingered dusters, two fingered ones, a lot of 4 fingered dusters, and i even have a 3 fingered trench knife. it is actually quite fun to make them.

In many states even having one in your pocket will get you a night in jail. Not knocking your interests or work, but I'd be pretty leery of carrying one.

i had a few old brass knuckle sets, but got rid of all but two, which sit in a glass glass on display. the mere possession of one in most states is a felony, so i decided keeping them as part of a collection was not wirth the potential trouble i could get in.

I own some Steel Knuckles as a novelty.. I don't really see them being very useful for self-defense or as a weapon in general compared to a blade or firearm.

Mmmm Paperweights, and they're not trench-knives, they are paperweights with a built in letter opener;)

Knuckledusters are legal to OWN, illegal to CARRY. That is in most, if not all states. That also applies to most other non-firearm weapons.

A combination lock just like kids use on lockers at school makes a great single finger knuckle duster if you use one that fits your hand. They are legal anywhere and can cause a serious skull fracture.

Strangely, I don't find myself carrying around combination locks very often.

Exactly. I used this trick when I was in school in a defense-of-third-party situation (attacker punching a supine victim). Nailed the guy just to the right of his crown: Out of commission and stopped the attack right there. The blow lacerated his scalp [and, rumor had it, caused a hairline fracture in the skull].

Good for you. Some on this forum would just have stood by like sheep and let it happen. I hope you had enough sense to loose the lock before the authorities arived.
I saw a guy hit with a palmed que ball like that once. They carried him our on a stretcher.

Well, the vic was my friend, and he did nothing to deserve it.

This was in school so locks were common. I just put it back in my bag without even really thinking I was hiding anything. Probably wouldn't have mattered since the administrators declared I was justified, but I would have hated to have given them any funny ideas about placing even more bans and restrictions on things you can bring to school.

OP is wrong about knuckles being legal in California, they are actually listed in the same code that bans assault weapons....

(that goes for plastic ones as well)

not in PA. we have a listed of prohibited offensive weapons, which brass knuckles are on. owning any of those items are illegal. we're pretty good on gun laws, even when it comes to NFA items, but our non-firearm weapon laws suck.

yeah, i still fail to see the logic in weapons laws.....

i can legally carry a firearm....hell, i could walk down the street with a rifle on my back if i wanted to......but god help me if i am caught with a Zoobow, Klackers, or a slungshot.....:banghead:

Like many non-firearms weapons it's what you do with it that may or may not break the laws of your state.

One thing is absolutely certain but little understood. Many times on the street there's grounds to make an arrest for one minor situation or other but mostly it's a judgment call (as an old ex-marine would put it... Sir, it depends on the weather, the situation, and the terrain...). Add having a pair of knucks on your person or within your ready reach was the kind of thing that tipped the scales against more than one young man --- when it was my decision whether they got a warning or a ride....

At least that's the advice I gave my son when he finally learned to drive and started learning about life by himself...

I have an old pair of brass knuckles that belonged to my great grandfather, they have been passed down through the years. I have heard he was a mean 'ol cuss, but I don't know if he ever used them, they are at home in my gunsafe, and it is very unlikely they will ever be used for anything but show and tell, I don't think I would want to get hit with them though!

A lock that fits your hand properly will do anything that brass knuckles will do, even better since it is usualy heavier and all the force is concentrated on just one small hard metal loop rather than spread out over 4. The best thing is that they are legal for anyone to have practically anywhere. Another option is that the lock can be put in a sock to make a nasty flail.

While on a run the other day, I found a 3" long 5/8th inch socket in good shape on the side of the road. I picked it up and carried it home in my hand... gave me a really good thought that it would make a good unconventional weapon (similar to a roll of quarters).
