Koran Commands Killing All Non-Muslims

I am a bit disturbed by all the gushing I see on here recently about how Islam is a religion of peace and all.

Certainly there are nice folks who claim to be muslims. Please note that they are "nice" DESPITE, not BECAUSE of their religion.

If they were to follow the Koran literally, they would be trying to kill every infidel (every non-muslim - also called "pagan") they run into.

Sura 9:5 But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

They would certainly not befriend Jews and Christians...

5:54 Section 8. O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

So much for peace in the middle east...

Those who follow Islam to the letter will and do try to convert or kill the rest of us, or die trying, it is their duty to their god. They DEFINITELY will not make friends of jews and Christians (though before Mohammed solidified his power base he did advocate being nice to Christians and Jews, only later do you get 5:54 above).

I'm glad a lot of folks who call themselves muslims disobey that particular aspect of their faith and don't constantly try to kill the rest of us.

For that, a big "thanks" and thumbs up.

HMMM, I wonder how long this thread will stay alive. Are these passages from the Koran real? If so, Does it actually mean for all muslims to attempt to convert non muslims, or kill them. Just asking a question, not trying to incite.

Maybe it is, but it would be nice to have a correct translation for the ignorant first.

Yes they are real (look them up for yourself) and yes they mean what they say. Just like the verses that instruct that "when you find a theif cut off his hands, do not delay" means what it says.

Now how various people "interpret" them varies, that's why my muslim friend down the street isn't trying to slit my throat, and why what we call "moderate" muslim countries don't practice state authorized amputation. But some do, and those ate doing it base on those koranic verses.
